Idly looking through the coming weeks weather models. On GFS Thursday stands out as a day with potential for some severe thunderstorms in the south and south east. It shows a low pressure area bringing some very warm and moist air up from the south, with a lot of energy available to creat some cracking weather.

Caveats: ECMWF and UKMO aren't quite so gung ho I don't think, but I can see more detail with the GFS model, so it's easier to interpret. The met office website shows nothing of the sort. As I'm just an amateur, please use the met office website before making/cancelling plans.

Lots of lightning here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/06/2016 22:53

Shiny, you may get something out of this. It is very muggy isn't it.

Yay Titsy!
Hope it stops at a decent time for you.

Really, really don't want any here in on the Lincolnshire coast, we have a rescue dog and she is terrified of them 😞

RustyBear · 22/06/2016 22:53

I love watching the thunder circles on lightning maps.org and hearing the thunder just as the line gets to us on the map.

Titsywoo · 22/06/2016 22:54

The dog is looking out the window with concern and growling a lot! Can't really hear any thunder - I think that would really set her off!

Rinceoir · 22/06/2016 22:54

Hearing thunder in Barnet. Rains just started. Keeping eyes peeled for lightning!

MangoIsTheNewApple · 22/06/2016 22:56

SW London currently having a massive thunderstorm - lots of lightning.

camelfinger · 22/06/2016 22:59

Massive storm in SW London. Load thunder and loads of lightning - love it!

camelfinger · 22/06/2016 22:59

Loud thunder should read.

MangoIsTheNewApple · 22/06/2016 23:01

camel We might be neighbours! Just heavy rain now and far away growls of thunder.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/06/2016 23:02

RB, that sounds fun!

Stratters, you may be just far north enough to escape them.

Yay !! I hear thunder in the distance and we have lightning now !
Love a good storm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2016 06:00

We had a storm go through in the early hours. Looking at the radar, the band of rain is looking really dense around the SE. A lot of rain yet to come.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2016 06:20

after this mornings torrential rain moves away there will be a few hours before the next band of storms move in.

It's pouring in Kent. Still very muggy and sticky though, hasn't really cleared the air at all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2016 06:34

We really need to look to a weather front on Saturday to clear the air. Humidity levels should drop nicely then.

It really is muggy!

We had loads of lightning here last night (Hampshire) and initially a huge bang that woke ds and I. The rain hasn't stopped since then I don't think.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 23/06/2016 06:54

I was woken by torrential rain and thunder around 2am (Hampshire/Surrey borders). Woke again about 6 and still raining steadily. Worried about all my plants on the allotment being washed away!

Senigallia · 23/06/2016 08:32

OYBK, any chance you could do a pre-Wimbeldon forecast at some point? (Lurker admirer of your forecasting skills; I just appreciate the pretty maps)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2016 13:03

Senigallia, it looks really pretty unsettled I'm afraid, the jet stream shoves itself right across England bringing a lot of rain. Less humid though.

The next band looks to hit the coast around the IOW and eastwards I think from around 2ish, with London again being in the firing line by about 4pm. I don't think the rain will be so prolonged, but it may be torrential once again.
