met office

not sure I like the new naming scheme but hey ho. As I've intimated in a couple of posts over the past few days there has been potential for quite a nasty wind event tomorrow night. could bring a large swathe of winds 60mph inland, 70 mph along the south coast. As it is the first storm of the season down in England and Wales, its worth being prepared. Tether those trampolines!

storm is behaving very much as predicted with gusts to about 50 mph widespread across the midlands and the south (including london).
Higher gusts in Wales and close to the Welsh border.

There's a hooley howling here (Wiltshire), the wind's got stronger over the last half hour. There was a heck of a crash a few minutes ago so I think (hope)?a tree's come down in the woods behind us.

MrSlant · 17/11/2015 20:44

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, that was fun! Out on an unavoidable errand two hours ago on our totally tree lined (tree tunnelled?) roads and it was a bit like that Kong game where you have to jump barrels avoiding the bigger branches. Struggled to get out of the car as the wind was straight onto the door. Then spent an hour at a presentation watching out of the window with one eye at the petrol station across the road whose roof was oscillating fascinatingly. That was it for the West Wales coast right OYBBK?

lorelei9 · 17/11/2015 20:57

OYBBK - do you know if it will be this windy tomorrow AM - thinking of the commute. Thanks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2015 21:01

lorelei it will be through by then :) MrSlant, you are over the worst of it.

thursdays warnings for parts of Scotland Northern Ireland and Northern England.

Thanks OBBYK

It has got so bad now, I'm quite worried for the windows!! (They've got that film on them, but still).

GloriaSmud · 17/11/2015 21:12

A bit scary here (Leicester) Wind's blowing right at the front of the house and our (full, not due to be emptied until Thursday) recycling bin has gone over in the (normally sheltered) back garden. Can hear fences creaking and our conservatory (at the back of the house) has the occasional creak as well in the high gusts.

middlings · 17/11/2015 21:16

OYBBK, hello! Good to see you. Question of monumental importance - poor wee DD2 (2) isn't liking this much but I quite fancy some sleep tonight. When is this going to get the hell out of SE London?!

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 17/11/2015 21:35

The storm is well and truly here on the Beds/Cambs border. It's ear plugs for me tonight I think.

spudmasher · 17/11/2015 21:36

There goes my greenhouse......Sad

middlings · 17/11/2015 21:47

Dogs are going mad around here - poor things.

lorelei9 · 17/11/2015 22:04

So loud it sounds like it's in here! ( I live on a high ish floor). Be annoyed if I can't sleep, supposed to have a nice night out tomorrow and long meetings at work....boring.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/11/2015 22:30

sorry spud. that is not good. be careful with the clean up.

GloriaSmud · 18/11/2015 11:00

Spud Sad
BBC report here on Storm Barney. Think we've managed to come through OK ~ neighbours have lost a few fence panels and the felt off their shed roof though.
