met office

not sure I like the new naming scheme but hey ho. As I've intimated in a couple of posts over the past few days there has been potential for quite a nasty wind event tomorrow night. could bring a large swathe of winds 60mph inland, 70 mph along the south coast. As it is the first storm of the season down in England and Wales, its worth being prepared. Tether those trampolines!

The wind has really picked up here in Essex.

GloriaSmud · 17/11/2015 17:40

MadeMan ~ the Metoffice have started naming storms. Abigail was the first named one last week and this one's called Barney.

Wind has picked up here as well (Leicester) ~ metoffice weren't wrong with the 3pm start to it all!

atticusclaw2 · 17/11/2015 17:42

It's really picked up here in the East Mids. The extractor fan vent is flapping away and I just went to load more wood into the furnace and when I opened the chimney vent I was hit by a gust of wind.

oldsilver · 17/11/2015 17:49

It's a tad breezy here in Bristle massive understatement. Bin day tomorrow and I'm watching full bins and recycling boxes fly down the street. I am not going to put mine out. The wind is taking your breath away!

MadeMan · 17/11/2015 18:30

Oh I see, thanks Gloria. So we have storm names like America now. Smile

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 17/11/2015 18:39

We have just managed to rescue the table, chairs and other associated crap items and stowed them in the shed before they end up tumbling their way to goodness knows where.

It's a tad breezy out there.

megletthesecond · 17/11/2015 19:24

old it drives me nuts when neighbours put their bins out in a gale. Does it not occur to some people that if they're struggling to haul the bin out the crashing gate then maybe the wind might just tip it all over in the night Hmm.

I've just walked home and it was hard going walking in the wind.

oldsilver · 17/11/2015 19:29

Can anyone link to that site that shows gusts/wind speeds that you can zoom into your very local area - I can't find it and forgot it's name.

It's got even worse now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2015 19:32

The pretty, less scientific one is Google earth null school if I've screwed up the link

megletthesecond · 17/11/2015 19:38

I mean Google 'earth nullschool'. It's not a Google earth thing. IYSWIM.

ladybird69 · 17/11/2015 19:41

OMG I am absolutely scared shittless of the wind (when I was little girl I watched neighbours greenhouse take off and crash ground few gardens down shock). we've got really really REALLY high winds here in Gloucestershire at mo and my daft/stupid/idiotic neighbour has just put his bins out!
praying that my trees stay standing. stay safe everyone Flowers

oldsilver · 17/11/2015 19:47

Ooh 37-54mph, judging by the gusts and bins flying past bit more than that.

oldsilver · 17/11/2015 19:49

Ta for links!

kelper · 17/11/2015 19:50

That earth null school link is fab, I could watch that all day!
Barney has arrived in east anglia now......

lorelei9 · 17/11/2015 19:51

very bad in London, I'm sure when it was originally forecast it was more for the SW of the country and less of the SE?

That said, the forecast seems to change hourly.... now there are rumours of snow in London on Sunday. I hate snow with a passion.

evilpopstar · 17/11/2015 19:52

It's like the beginning of the wizard of oz in south London !

HemanOrSheRa · 17/11/2015 19:54

'Tis very breezy here in Bristle innit, oldsilver? I've just seen someone putting their wheelie bin out! I said to DS "Well, THAT won't be there in the morning!"

evilpopstar · 17/11/2015 19:54

Snow???????????

Artandco · 17/11/2015 20:14

It's very windy here in London now. We live right in the centre and all I can see and hear from windows is loads of road work stuff ( signs/ barriers etc) all crashing into each other and flying up the road

lorelei9 · 17/11/2015 20:23

evil, the weather for my postcode, on the BBC, is showing up a chance of snow on Sunday. Gah. Hate the stuff. (I'm on the border of N London and another county).

SarahJinx · 17/11/2015 20:28

Crikey, I'm on the cambs Norfolk border and its getting crazy out...

BastardGoDarkly · 17/11/2015 20:29

Yep east Anglia here, and blowing up a storm Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2015 20:29

It is possible there may be a little snow Sunday morning, but almost certainly won't lie.

MushroomMama · 17/11/2015 20:32

It's very windy here in Merseyside! My letterbox is banging like no tomorrow
