Now than mn is back up again (grrr) I can post this.

It is looking increasingly likely that much of the UK will be hit by a period of wild and windy weather on Sunday night into Monday morning. I suspect early weather warnings will be put out by the met office. It looks like Scotland and Northern England will be most affected. Will update as we get closer to the time.

Thanks for the warning Kitten Will be keeping an eye out on this thread and weather.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 18/02/2015 12:23

Keeping an eye on this Trampoline still tied down from last time

leesmum · 18/02/2015 18:48

Thanks Kitten Grin

Perihelion · 20/02/2015 00:45

Think there's potential for snow on Sunday with this. After a few few strangly warm days, I passed 5 gritters on the way home from Fife tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2015 07:52

Sunday night looks much less stormy. Monday looks fairly wild for all with widespread gusts of 50mph, perhaps 60-70 off some western coasts.
Maybe a little sleet and snow in Scotland as early as this evening and continuing on and off through the weekend.

Generally looking like quite a wild period coming up.

Think you might be right, Perihelion, looks like Scotland could well get some snow out of this.
I'm kind of surprised that the metoffice haven't got any wind/rain warnings out for this yet.

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2015 08:48

Tuesday looks especially stormy for the welsh/North Devon coasts and then Wednesday-Thursday (maybe a bit far into the future this one), the coastline of Scotland gets it.
next week looks proper stormy with all weather thrown at us.

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2015 11:48

Metoffice weather warnings for ice and snow. Nothing about the wind although it is mentioned for Monday (in the detailed written section) for Scotland.

oricella · 21/02/2015 08:57

Well, a wee cover of snow on top of frozen rain in the Highlands this morning..

Itscurtainsforyou · 21/02/2015 09:02

Snowing in North west England right now

LostInWales · 21/02/2015 09:05

We have a very high tide as well (does everyone have a very high tide, I suppose it's unlikely to only be in W Wales!) they've closed one road locally that was very badly affected (the sea defence was breached) for the whole weekend. Off down the beach in a minute to check out the waves!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/02/2015 09:08

snow in Surrey when we woke up today!

Patatas · 21/02/2015 09:14

Local news is forecasting bad snow for Monday in the Manchester region, I hope they're wrong. I had a terrible time in it when it snowed a few weeks ago.

Smattering of snow on the cars this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2015 11:19

Monday is difficult to call for the Midlands and northern England. It's on a knife edge really. It does look like there could be some heavy snow in parts of Scotland. It still looks like a very windy day, especially around western coasts.

Snow in Surrey? Where?? Not a smidgen here in N Surrey, it was lovely & sunny when we woke up, felt like spring!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/02/2015 13:58

East Surrey, and not especially high ground either. All gone now though Sad

Perihelion · 21/02/2015 18:28

High tide due to almost a new Moon which is the closest it's been to Earth for 26 years, if I remember correctly.

Not related but very pretty, there's Earthshine on the Moon right now and Venus and Mars are in conjunction just below. Obviously The Express has an article saying this is a harbinger of Doom Grin

There's likely to be a blizzard tomorrow as I've booked to take DD to an indoor ski slope in Glasgow.......

GloriaSmud · 22/02/2015 10:46

There's more here about the 'supertides' that are due to hit the UK this morning.

The mahoosive band of rain can be seen here on raintoday. After a bright start, it's clouding over quickly here (Leicester) with rain due about 2pm. After much thought, I don't think I'll be hitting the allotment today!

mankyscotslass · 22/02/2015 12:40

Snow! Grin

It was sleeting heavily so everything is wet, but we definitely have snow now.

GloriaSmud · 22/02/2015 13:32

Yay manky!
A few snow reports coming in here. There are some snowy scenes on trafficScotland's cameras and at Cairn o'Mount, the snowgates are open (for the moment!)

Meanwhile, it's a chilly 4.1C here and we have rain Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2015 14:00

Cold windy and wet here. Perfect afternoon for vegging.

SE.
Became gusty on Sunday after lunch-time and began to rain .
we had hailstones on Saturday at 5.30pm.
Sofar today is fair, windless and 3.8 degrees.

leesmum · 25/02/2015 07:45

Kitten is it true we're supposed to be getting another weather "Bomb" this weekend, And what exactly does it mean? Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2015 16:55

A weather bomb is when a low pressure deepens more than 24hpa in 24 hours. Whilst it looks possibly rather windy in the south on Sunday - it isnt going to undergo rapid deepening and so it is not a weather bomb.

Well Monday night was minging, cold, very wet and windy. Was snow on the Ochils yesterday.
This evening at work, I wondered if I'd started the menopause and was having a hot flush, but no, the temp had risen to 11C. It's currently 11.8C in my garden at 1am.......weird......oh and a wee bit windy.
