My Facebook news feed had a post from Metcheck saying there is a possibility of snow around christmas week. They were at pains to say it was a long range forecast but I had a lurk on a few weather forums and there does seem to be a general feeling that we could have a cold snap at the end of December, particularly in the south.

Of course I have to ask you OYBBK as you are the weather oracle after all. So, what after the chances of snow towards the end of December?

Well there's going to be snow on the hills this week in Scotland. But nothing at low levels yet. Mind you winter doesn't start till tomorrow officially....

Llareggub · 30/11/2014 18:40

It's been unseasonably mild here. My boys had a paddle in the sea and ended up just in shorts and bare chests. It was very sunny with no wind at all. My face is a little pink too.

DontPushTheButton · 30/11/2014 19:36

exciting! Love snow!

magimedi · 30/11/2014 19:52

If I had my way it would never snow again!

Filthy horrible stuff.

Try spending 3 winters in the far NE of Scotland & then see how you like it!

Piers corbyn says snow around 5-8 December due to an incoming solar flare. That's high "major red" risk of snow too. I'm buying a new sledge.

Oh, I was just going to post this!

We 'have' to drive to the PILs on 27/12, in the SW (from London). DS1 has to get back from us (SW London) to Brighton on 26/12 and we then 'have' to go to my family in the North on 2/1/15

What are our chances, OYBBKY?!

BlackeyedSusan · 01/12/2014 14:39

snow is great.... when it is a treat and not often. when it disrupts everything for a long while, then different matter.

hoping for snow. next weekend would not be good though we are off to see a certain person... Xmas Grin

2tired2bewitty · 01/12/2014 14:45

Marking my place. We have to drive from north London to Yorkshire on 27/12 and back on 29/12 and I really don't fancy being stuck on the M1 with a baby Sad

Quenelle · 01/12/2014 14:52

It's quarter to four and so dark here right now the cars need their lights on. It reminds me how dark it gets just before a huge dump of snow.

This Piers Corbyn fella, how reliable is he? [anxious] I'm torn between childish excitement for playing in the snow and grown-up dread for the hassle it causes.

Liveinthepresent · 01/12/2014 14:54

My DD (3.5) is determined there must be snow for Christmas so for once I will watch hopefully for news of an influx.

hashtagwhatever · 01/12/2014 14:57

I hope it does snow

MsIngaFewmarbles · 01/12/2014 14:59

Placemarking for snow news

OddFodd · 01/12/2014 15:02

I really need snow this year before DS gets too heavy for the sledge I bought him 2 years ago!

AdventCaroline · 01/12/2014 15:07

I don't think you can say at this stage. All you can say is "It might snow".

I hope it doesn't personally!

Sallycinnamum · 01/12/2014 17:37

Had another lurk on the weather forums today and they're saying much the same re chance of snow but whisper, the daily hell said it was going to be a wet xmas according to the met office. Hmmm, calling OYBBK, where we you???

FoxSticks · 01/12/2014 17:43

A white Christmas would be amazing. My dd has just turned three and is really excited about Christmas for the first time, snow would blow her mind I think Smile

Rachie1986 · 01/12/2014 17:56

much rather no snow please for travelling reasons..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2014 18:24

Am discussing it here at present :)

Arkkorox · 01/12/2014 19:08

Nooo :( I dont want to be stuck at the top of a massive hill with a newborn and miss christmas at my mums :(

meglet · 01/12/2014 19:24

Can it not snow until I've bought some snug new winter boots please.

Sallycinnamum · 01/12/2014 19:47

I've just done the metcheck white Xmas shaker and we've shot from 25% chance of snow to 50% in Greater London area!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2014 21:37

I spect that will change again tomorrow Sally!

I do my Christmas forecast once GFS comes into range. That's the nearest to science I can manage Grin
