OYBBK, how much longer will this heat go on? :-(

OYBBK I know you are not an oracle but you're the nearest thing we've got on Mumsnet.

I am 29 weeks pregnant and struggling with London daily commute and the general vileness of living in a terraced house with no garden and no AIR.

Do you think it can last much longer? I would like a biiiiig thunderstorm and then overcast cooler conditions please.

OP posts:
digerd · 25/07/2014 16:58

S.Herts.
We had a surprise mild thunder storm/rain which began before 2pm and is still going on less the thunder.
23 degrees out but feels steamy and no fresher Sad.
Also so dark indoors Confused
Just heard thunder again.
Had to pop out in the rain and being a bit wet is helping Grin

GloriaSmud · 25/07/2014 21:22

Just another day of heat, then a day or two of 'the sort of UK summer like temperatures that we're used to (18-23C)' and then it looks like at the moment, from Tuesday, the heat builds again (apologies again to those who don't like the heat.)

Perihelion · 26/07/2014 20:08

Just back home from a week by the beach in Argyll Grin I have a tan which is very unusual! I went swimmimng for hours without my wetsut which is unheard of!
The most mental part was, that after a week of solid sunshine, it started to rain 10 mins before we set off to drive home.

Currently 18C and grey and drizzly in Edinburgh, which almost feels cold to me now Shock

Meglet · 26/07/2014 22:37

I think my legs are finally not white Grin. I wouldn't go as far as tanned, maybe milky tea coloured. The dc's are going golden.

The only drawback is having to water the allotment. Although at least the weeds aren't growing (much).

FrankelandFilly · 27/07/2014 08:31

This was put up on the MetCheck website this morning:

"Remember that heatwave they said would last for two months in the papers a couple of days ago? Well, it's over...

Low pressure swinging down from the North-west during the course of today will introduce cooler, fresher air across all areas during the course of the day but of course with the transition of airmasses comes some of that wet stuff.

The heaviest of the rain this morning will be across Northern Ireland and Northern England. Cloudy across Southern and South-western areas too as the cold front trails across the region. In between these two fronts there should be some half decent amounts of sunshine. So, for the Midlands and Eastern areas of Wales temperatures should respond with 23 or 24c possible.

Elsewhere across Southern and Eastern England it's a case of patchy rain and rather cloudy with the main area of rain spreading South during the course of this afternoon and this evening.

The main story though is the transition to cooler weather happens today and this cooler, fresher weather will be with us until the end of the month at least."

Hurrah for cooler weather!

sonlypuppyfat · 27/07/2014 08:38

Now I never moan when its cold ever. This weather is making me feel sick the house looks like one giant shithole because I cannot be arsed to do anything and each day lasts a fucking week. Thats it rant over.

marne2 · 27/07/2014 08:42

'This cooler weather will be with us until the end of the month at least', it is the end of the month isn't it?

We are in the sw, today it seems cooler, a bit cloudy but no sign of any rain, apparently it's only going to be cooler for a few days, by the end of next week temps will rise again. I'm not moaning though, I love the warm weather but will also enjoy a few cooler days, a week until we go on holiday to Cornwall and I'm hoping the nice weather shows it's face Grin.

FrankelandFilly · 27/07/2014 09:39

Good point marne, I'm not sure if that means till the end of next week or the end of August.

GloriaSmud · 27/07/2014 10:23

Meglet ~ Smile at her 'milky tea' tan. I think I'm 'strong tea with a dash of milk' at the moment!

In keeping with the change in the weather, there's a weather warning for the SE ~ thundery showers developing later today.

From what I can tell, 'tis all looking a bit cooler and fresher over the next few days. Midlands and the south/SW should still get some decent amounts of sunshine and still be warm (20-26C ~ some people might still find this a little too warm.) There's still not much rain forecast for these areas after tomorrow (so another one who is going to have to make a journey to an allotment to do watering!)
For the north and Scotland, things are looking a lot more pleasant (temperatures more in the range of 15-20C) but there's also more of a chance of rain there as well.

As always, hope I've got some of the above right!

susiedaisy · 27/07/2014 10:35

This heat is draining me of every bit of energy all I want to do is sleep. How people enjoy cycling, hiking and going off exploring for the day etc in this weather baffles me it really does. I know I shouldn't complain especially after the rainy horrible summers we've had lately but.......

magimedi · 27/07/2014 11:03

I love, love, love it!

Wait until it's winter, then I'll moan. I just wish we had a guaranteed couple of months of summer every year.

Then those who find it hard could invest in ceiling fans etc.

digerd · 27/07/2014 11:04

susie
When the weather is close, muggy and breezeless, the best way to make your own fresh air movement is to get on your bike. Not on the roads with motorised traffic but on cycle ways in the countryside.

Hiking though is just for the extremely fit madpeople Grin.

susiedaisy · 27/07/2014 17:59

We'll it's now a balmy 22 with a lovely breeze Grin

JerseySpud · 27/07/2014 18:17

I love winter. I really do. I hate summer.

digerd · 28/07/2014 06:39

SE.
Pouring with rain and 16 degrees

BuzzardBird · 28/07/2014 06:49

Mids 22 and sunny :)

Never have sex in the winter...no bump in summer, sorted.

digerd · 28/07/2014 06:59

Rain has delayed dog walk but seems to be clearing up but very fresh outside.
Now which of my summer showerproof jackets shall I wear?Smile

msrisotto · 28/07/2014 07:17

Boo to cooling down! I love proper summer!

digerd · 29/07/2014 06:15

SE.
Twas indeed cooler yesterday as was forecast but the rain in the night did not happen.
Sitting room gone down to a comfy 23 this morning from 26.
However, the forecast for today was very hot again but then cooler for the rest of the week.
We'll see.

marne2 · 29/07/2014 08:31

Anyone know what the weather is looking like for next week in Cornwall? I need to know wether to pack shorts or rain coats ( or both ). Have seen several forecasts that suggest rain but I am hoping they are wrong.

GloriaSmud · 29/07/2014 11:33

marne2 ~ at the moment, I'd go for 'take both.' At the moment, from Saturday-Monday and Wednesday, it looks OK (warmish ~ 18-21C but chance of the odd shower) but Tuesday, Thursday and Friday looks quite wet. All this is quite a long way away at the moment and could/probably will change before then!

marne2 · 29/07/2014 12:23

Thank you, will shove some jumpers, trousers and rain coats in my suit case just incase, fingers crossed it won't be too wet as it will be a night are with 2 dd's who can't cope with being indoors ( they have ASD and hate busy indoor places so was hoping it would be beach weather ), as long as we get a couple reasonable days then I'm sure we will cope.

digerd · 29/07/2014 17:20

SE
Apart from the dog walk at 6.30 am, at 2pm it was stifling with no breeze and I have been wilting at 28degrees out and very close/humid.
I can do 28 degrees so long as is a dry heat but the humidity is a killer.
Indoors is back to 27 with no draught from open windows.
Sky overcast atm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/07/2014 22:08

I'm back now, thank you so much to Gloria for holding down the fort so ably :)
