Slow moving heavy showers this week

Just a heads up, especially for those that have been lulled into a sense of summer. After today there looks to be lots of heavy slow moving showers likely. Some of them could be come quite thundery/haily by nature. I think tht wednesday/thursday look like the peak wet days and I wouldnt be surprised to seem some localised high rainfall values pretty much anywhere but perhaps with a focus on the NW and east Wales/west England.

digerd ~ I'd never get on one of those really tall ladders to clean gutters so I used one of those smaller 6ft/decorating type ones that open out to make a pyramid shape and along with the extendable window cleaning pole, the whole thing sort of worked. I think there's still some moss/muck in them though so might have another go later in the year. Anything to avoid the £60 I was quoted by one doorstep person to clean them out a few months ago Shock

I could cope with 'not terrible'.
Yesterday was lovely here (Manchester area).
Today, not so great, but it's not raining at the moment.

digerd · 28/05/2014 06:44

Gloria
60 seems a lot but depends on how many meters of guttering you have.
I have only my frontage done which is about 7 m and costs 5 which I think is a rip off so get him to clean it as well. < clean means a wipe down only>.

It poured at 3am but is now having a break and hope it stays that way for 9.15Hmm

SE
Another grey, soggy day atm but not raining. I had ants taking shelter from the wet in my bedroom. Been living here 17 years and never had that happen beforeConfused

The water table is still high. We have a park in the town centre that took the brunt of the winter floods and it took 2 months for the water to drop. The stream has started to rise and widen again. It can't cope with any rainfall without starting to break its banks.

We really need a dry summer now don't we.

MrsJohnDeere · 29/05/2014 13:00

OYBBK please could you look into your crystal ball and tell me if there are likely to be any heavy showers in the East Midlands in the next few days (as opposed to the 24/7 drizzle that we have had for the last few days)? Flowers

I have a leaking roof which is dripping a little, but is likely to go horribly wrong if we get a really heavy downpour.

Am I alone in finding the weather forecasts totally unreliable at the moment? I use the Met Office and Netweather apps and they keep telling me that it is not raining when it is. We've had pretty much non-stop rain since Friday and the rivers are almost at flooding point.

Orangeanddemons · 29/05/2014 14:37

It's not stopped raining here since Saturday afternoon. Am mighty pissed of with it. I think it stopped briefly on Tuesday for a bit, but has been peeing down without a break since Tuesday night.

I seem to remember this time of year was always sunny in the past apart from the last few years. Is it the jet stream again?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2014 14:43

The models just aren't handling it properly. Tuesday ended up being much wetter than Monday nights models had indicated. You should have dry for a few days now til Sunday night when the rain reappears.

The problem is a large area of low pressure to our SW and a corresponding one to the NE. The weather systems are being forced between them.

I'm so heartily sick of this. Looked out of my window and discovered that all of my lovely plants that I put in two months ago have vanished to slugs over night and instead I have a garden of a billion weeds.

Kitten - you're already a legend in our house!

DD is having a garden party for her 21st on Saturday (West Midlands) - should I be rushing around buying every gazebo available do you think?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2014 17:51

Aj at the moment there looks to be a small chance of showers, so she would be pretty unlucky to catch one especially if you are towards Manchester rather than further south say Birmingham.

ajandjjmum · 29/05/2014 18:22

Thanks Kitten - just slightly north of Birmingham, so fingers crossed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2014 19:05

I'm out al day tomorrow but if you give me a prod I'll try and remember to update!

Bless your heart Kitten - it feels damp and cold here now - DH is questioning the sanity of anyone who plans a garden party in May in the UK (he has a point - but it was his idea!).

Be really grateful for any update. Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2014 06:36

Oybbk why is it raining across Europe?! I'm going on holiday in ten days and the weather just says rain rain rain please can you fix this with your magic weather powers Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2014 08:50

Its those stupid stubborn high pressures and a pathetic jet stream funneling in between - you can see it here press the >> to move it on.

Moscow seems to be the place to go at the moment!!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2014 08:53

I'm going to Greece!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2014 19:58

Smile Thanks Kitten.
ajandjjmum · 01/06/2014 14:21

It was lovely - bit cloudy in the morning, but lots of sunny breaks in the afternoon. So we all enjoyed a chilled afternoon with no threat of rain.
Thanks for arranging that Kitten! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2014 19:33

You are very welcome Grin

SE.
Sunday was lovely all day and the overcast sky is trying its best to break up now. 18 degrees helped by the occasional bits of hazy sunshine. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2014 15:38

We could be moving into a period of thunderstorms from Saturday onwards, still unsettled but with some warmth creeping into the SE it could get 'interesting'.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/06/2014 15:41

Oh no oybbk! There's a yellow weather warning out for rain Saturday and it's our lovely village fete! (I only go for the BBQ and pimms Wink)

GloriaSmud · 03/06/2014 16:50

I thought Saturday could be 'interesting' when I saw the weather forecast at lunchtime and I see that the metoffice have got a weather warning out for it already. Think I'll give the allotment a miss that day!
