I thought it was spring now. OYBBK what do you think?

I think it's said on weather message boards that snow's possible anytime 'til April/May time!
I've just been on Netweather and they're giving us in the Midlands a 60%+ chance of it on Tuesday. This will probably be a light covering over the Pennines and nowhere near where I am! (Leicester)

(I hope OYBBK's OK ~ not 'seen' her here for a week or so.)

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2012 10:42

Netweather's thoughts on the coming cold snap.

mankyscotslass · 01/03/2012 10:47

Was just thinking that too - hope she is ok.

QED · 01/03/2012 21:56

I saw OYBBK on another thread last night so presume she is all right :)

Am going away for a long weekend and am considering how many layers of clothes I need to take :)

What?

ohyouBadBadkitten · 02/03/2012 14:32

not very well still, so I'm afraid I've not had the energy/inclination to look at the weather. I have been playing with daffodils though :) Monday does look quite interesting for those in northern england/southern Scotland. Models are varying quite a lot where the precipitation will be and hence the risk.

could be thunderstorms tomorrow.

GloriaSmud · 03/03/2012 07:35

Still not feeling 100%, OYBBK?
Can I send some Thanks, Brew (with squirty cream, of course!) and some nice Biscuit's to aid recovery?

Think for us in the south, we're going to have some much needed rain on Sunday night/Monday. Good for those low reservoirs and daffodils!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 03/03/2012 11:21

fraid not Gloria - been shifted onto some horrible medication and the consultant is sending me an appt to talk about surgery. Not the best state of affairs.
Thank you for all the pressies :)

you are right, it does look like useful amounts of rain tomorrow. Will be quite a novelty! More tomorrow though - Monday looks rather lovely, if feeling rather colder.

Yellow warnings out for snow in SE on met office website

ohyouBadBadkitten · 03/03/2012 17:19

I looked at the potential this morning - tbh I'm not entirely convinced! if the rain gets heavy enough, then perhaps.... mind you one of the models is quite bullish about the prospects for heavy snow.....

Shinyshoes1 · 03/03/2012 17:38

yay !!! SNOW !!!! Fingers arms, legs, eyes crossed

PestoSansVesto · 03/03/2012 17:45

Any chance we might get some Kitten?

South Downs, outskirts of Brighton Grin

ohyouBadBadkitten · 03/03/2012 17:49

theres some chance Pesto, but not a high one.

WednesdayWeek · 03/03/2012 17:50

There is a met office warning (yellow) for heavy rain turning to snow, for SE Pesto!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 03/03/2012 17:52

Pesto is outside of the warnings wednesday.

PestoSansVesto · 03/03/2012 17:54
Sad

[stubborn emoticon]

ohyouBadBadkitten · 03/03/2012 17:56

New term for some of you for the scenario that may happen - evaporative cooling. When heavy rain falls into dry air it evaporates. This takes energy and so cools the air. The heavier the rain, the more the cooling and the more chance there is for snow.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 03/03/2012 17:59

Ooh, yellow snow! I do wonder why the Met Office chose that colour for their warnings. I'm in North Yorkshire and our snow has been pitiful this year. Only one sledge day.

Labradorlover · 03/03/2012 21:44

Endoplasmic that's one more day than we've had......didn't even get the cold snap that you had down South.

GloriaSmud · 04/03/2012 07:11

Oh no, OYBBK. 'Tis awful when the stuff you're given to make you better, makes you feel worse! More Thanks,Brew and nice Biscuit's available when needed!

That's interesting about 'evaporative cooling'. Watching the forecast, I was wondering how the metoffice could be forecasting rain, with the chance of snow on the back edge, when it wasn't that cold. That all explains it!

Metofffice weather warnings for those that haven't seen them.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 04/03/2012 09:17

OYBBK - sorry to hear you are still/again feel dreadful :(

I was surprised when they mentioned snow again as I sat outside in the sun with my coffee - however, it's not looking like such a far fetched idea today, but I think you and I are too far SE aren't we?

Just yell if you feel like company this Monday or Friday - I can come to you or we can meet somewhere for coffee/lunch. PM me if you want to - no worries if you CBA :) x

JKSLtd · 04/03/2012 10:11

Thanks for your thoughts oybbk hope the docs can help you out asap.

Love the explanation of evap cooking thanks Smile

ohyouBadBadkitten · 04/03/2012 10:54

No snow in our area chipping :) just some rather helpful rain.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 04/03/2012 10:55

thank you JKS - it will be nice when I'm better!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 04/03/2012 13:13

some snow mixed in with the rain - down to 3C. It wont do anything but it is good for amusement.
