Apparently it was about 5am in a field loading sugar beet (not how I would wish to start my day tbh)

I didn't know it got that cold in England, Scotland maybe (however unlikely) but not England

I raised my eyebrow slightly but actually its probably not too far off a reading - at 8am this morning Norwich airport was at -11C

I tend to look towards Benson in Oxfordshire for coldest temps but clearly not this time!

Merrylegs · 18/12/2010 20:20

-12 in my car at 9 am this morning. 5 miles south of Norwich.

We're in Norwich and this morning the bottle of antifreeze in the car had, er, frozen!

MissAnthropy · 18/12/2010 20:29

DH was at work this morning in Norwich (left at 5.30am) and the car was full of frost on the inside. He had to abandon and catch a bus.

Ds1 and ds2 both had four inches of ice on the inside of their windows this morning so it must have been cold!

I will be phoning Mr Plastics on monday and find out about a secondary glazing.

And we have a aches and coughs and a mouse. Honestly, its like something out of Dickens. Grin

I have always maintained this bit of Norfolk has different weather

4andnotout · 18/12/2010 21:07

I thought it was bad yesterday when it was -2 at 3pm!

ProfYaffle · 18/12/2010 21:07

Friend of mine said it was -11 in Norwich and that was about 9am so I can well imagine -16 at 5am.

Samay - you must be in the same area as me, I'm half an hour south of Norwich, only just inside the Norfolk border.

I am about 20 miles south of Norwich and my gearbox was frozen solid this morning. DP said it had been -9 during the night at work, wonder how long it will last? Mum asked today if I had a contingency plan if we couldn't get over for lunch on Christmas day?!

MissAnthropy · 18/12/2010 21:19

4andnotout, we drove through Massingham the other night and some of the decorations were really lovely. Smile

We have no snow here in West Norfolk ish.

4andnotout · 18/12/2010 21:40

The tree outside the Dabbling Duck looks lovely doesn't it, I really want to buy some lights for outside but dp is refusing this year.

MissAnthropy · 18/12/2010 22:37

It is really lovely. I think the lights were left all year though? I vaguely recall seeing them in the summer...

DD was really excited by the drive through Massingham (there's a sentence I never thought I'd type). V festive.

4andnotout · 19/12/2010 01:04

Last year they were left on for months after Christmas, it was unintentional I think, and yes Massingham and excitement don't usually go hand in hand Xmas Grin

PricklyTinsel · 19/12/2010 01:20

2 weeks ago I left the house at minus 14 at 9am, and returned at minus 12 at 5pm. During the night it had dropped a lot lower obviously as our cold water pipe froze inside the house - upstairs only - and thankfully defrosted 2 and a half days later with no burst pipes. Yes it's been bloody cold, and no, not that unlikely OP.

KatyMac · 19/12/2010 07:58

Isn't it odd - I really didn't think it got that cold here

I'm north of Norwich and our thermometer showed -17 on Friday night/Saturday morning. It was quite balmy yesterday at midday at -10.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/12/2010 08:08

Norfolk always does different

GlynistheMincePie · 19/12/2010 08:11

DH drove home from Cambridge last night (gigging) was -11 at 2am so another record breaker I reckons Xmas Shock

He couldn't open the car boot when he got home, it's frozen shut!!
