We've recently moved from just outside Norwich. We're a few miles west now. Our car is a frozen block. The doors and boot won't open and the effort to do so snapped the hydraulic arm in the boot. There's ice inside it. It's bitterly, bitterly cold. DH is in Norwich again with work today and is wearing 6 layers and is still numb.

DH said it was -16 in Coltishall last night, about 8 miles south from here. DH is trying to get the car thawed out as I type. We're keen to run it around a bit, lest the battery charge runs down and we have to call out the garage to jumpstart it again.

The snow is great, though, lovely powder.

We're near some of you as our pre- Christmas visits have survived so far. It was -14C at PILs, but currently a balmy 0C (Aylsham)

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 12:19

I'm near Dereham now on th eNorwich side and this morning we had no water due o our borehole freezing. Its warmed a little now, in fact just enough for the bootroom (where the boiler is in it) and downstairs bathroom to flood tripping the electrics. Thank goodness we have an aga really

MissAnthropy · 19/12/2010 12:44

Bronze, slight hijack. Do you know owt about the Dereham high schools? DD is going to Necton primary and I think it feeds one of the Dereham ones. I forget which. I only remember them having terrible reputations when I was growing up but assume 20yrs might have changed something? Any ideas?

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 12:56

Not much to be honest. I think Neatherd is ok but I'm only going by the ofsted reports from when we were looking for a house to buy. We're rented and eldest is 7 so I doubt we'll still be here.
SoH may know I think shes Dereham

MissAnthropy · 19/12/2010 13:05

SoH lives in Swarfum.

And is currently masquerading as MissAnthropy. Grin

I don't think we'll be here when dd is of secondary age but we won't move far. Just wondering in which direction we'd rather move. I know Litcham school well for example but would rather live nearer Norwich again. But growing up (in Fakenham), Dereham had a terrible reputation. Just wondered if you'd been in Dereham at any point and seen uniformed children throwing vegetables at passing OAPs. That sort of thing.

I haven't been to Dereham for years. My Mum used to work in the East Dereham Day Nursery many, many years ago and I'd go sometimes and hang around in the sausage shop (which I suspect isn't there anymore) and eat their free samples. Is there a cinema there still? Was a Hollywood one but I think they sold to a bigger company.

There was also a pub down some stairs where people went to buy drugs. I never went. Obviously.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 13:30

 well I wasn't far off then. I rarely go into Dereham itself and only moved in in october and have never seen any veg throwing . When we were looking around we were told that Neatherd had improved but I don't really know.
Where we were before, up near 4andnotout people tried to be the Litcham side as Fakenham was pretty rubbish. I guess it depends on opnion though. My neighbour thought it was fab but personally any school that has gangs of kids in uniform smoking doesnt fill me with confidence. Those who could afford it though went prep/public. We ideally want to be in Reepham catchement. Its where the family are and the school is brilliant.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 13:32

ahhh wrong forum Grin

MissAnthropy · 19/12/2010 14:21

Fakenham was fine when I was a girl you see. V good in fact. They lost a good headmaster and I believe this isn't true now sadly. Litcham's lovely though.

4andnotout lives just down the road from my MIL. Grin

I know a farmer who lives in Reepham. He's eccentric but lovely.

4andnotout · 19/12/2010 15:57

I did years 7-10 at Fakenham High School when the famous Mr Muston was head, it was brilliant back then and I looked like a genius when I moved to the backwater of Hamonds High School.
I have friends who have sent their dc's to Dereham or Wayland rather than Hamonds.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 16:02

I'll be in the Duck in Massingham on boxing day Smile

We never did do that meet up
maybe you should all come to mine in the summer

MissAnthropy · 19/12/2010 17:42

DH is jumping in the sea at Cromer on boxing day to raise money for local children's hospices. I'll be in a pub somewhere laughing.

My ILs go to a quiz night in the Duck.

Lee Muston was my headteacher too. He taught me history in y7 as well. Rugby mad but was the heart of the school. It was a very good school back then. I knew somebody who went to Hamonds. Well until the Mart in KL and then she went to the QE maternity department. 9 months later mind. Grin

4andnotout · 19/12/2010 17:45

A friend who works in KL DSS said it's amazing how many teenage girls have babies exactly 40 weeks after the Mart Xmas Shock

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 19/12/2010 19:42

The heating has gone thanks to the flood.

Its going to be a cold night.
