OH no, I have one and it disintegrated (sp?) when washing. It has so many nooks and crannies, you have to take it toally apart after every meal, clean some bits with pipe cleaner etc. I tried just bunging it in the shower, but the seams went and the pads get wet and stink. Big no no IMO, get a Ikea one (it's about £12) or a trip trap, or at least something VERY simple and easy to clean. THe chicco reclines etc. which when buyting I thought was great, but you never use it, it's just pretty gimmicky. Sorry, waffling now - I think ikea or trip trap, I am chucking our it's so unhigienic now after only 12 months and getting an ikea one.

get the ikea one. or the most basic plainest one you can possibly find. don't get anything that adjusts any part of itself. honetly. we got a fantabulous mamas and papas one as a present and sooooo wish i had the ikea one instead.

OK, referring to this page, I would recommend the sort of high chair that you strap onto a normal chair, if you have a small house like we do. There's a Fisher Price version at the bottom of the page. We had a First Years one like this, it was absolutely no trouble to clean, and felt safe and secure for a large, strong ds throughout his highchair period. This wasn't that long really (18 months or less?) so was glad not to spend a fortune. Ideal for small house as you still have a normal chair after child has gone to bed, for adult use! I loathe the trip trap for this reason, as it takes up a whole space and I always seem to end up trying to sit on one at friends' houses, v uncomfortable.

I also like the look of (but have never used) the travel versions of these, there are a couple on that page at about £20, I think, which is a lot unless you are always at other people's houses. Handy for grandparents to buy or to get secondhand. I would expect them to start falling apart if used exclusively but don't know.

DS also sometimes used a clipon seat a bit like the Brevi? Dinette ones on that page. Very good early on but later I used to panic at the sight of him dangling off the table, he was so big and sturdy.

Thanks for this thread. We're also looking for one around xmas (plan to give first solids on xmas day!) - was planning on tripp trapp but i think i want one with a tray so dd can sit in the kitchen while i cook.

You can get a tray for the tripp trapp but it isn't an official Stokke one. Its available on ebay and is called the clic clac or something like that.

We used one in our old house as the breakfast bar faced the wall and I wanted DD to see into the kitchen.

Can't rate the tripp trapp highly enough. Best baby product I've bought. Am about to order number 2 for the next one!

if they notice it has gone, tell them there was a product recall of one batch due to tray misalignment or something [pants on fire emoticon]

we are fixed on out tripp trapps too, both dd and ds2 have them
there are cheaper alternatives - there were not alternatives when dd was a baby, and we wanted them to match

Elfs - I'm curious - isn't the Tripp Trapp supposed to "grow with the child" (or something)....if so why do you need to buy a new one? Can't you just eject DC1 onto a normal seat now and give the old one to DC2??

Elfsmummy/Piffle have you got the clic clac tray? had a look and it looks quite shallow, but don't know if it just looks that way because of shape. i have these visions of her playing with a piece of dough or something while i'm cooking...

no, QoQ, because that would mean that the tripp-trapp was a swizz and an Ordinary Highchair. MUCH better to buy a new one at enormous expense while clucking about how great the first one is... you tripp-trapp people are bonkers.

to the OP. Ikea, argos or booster. you shouldn't need to spend more than £30.

but isnt that the whole point - it grows with the child - so the child keeps using it as they get bigger, so would have to get a new one for next child...if you had lots of money that is definately no Trip trap in the rosy cheek household - my only advice is basically what you are doing - get load of advice and recommendations - I ended up with a crap mothercare one cos panic bought, once got it home realised only had 3 point harness - why would mothercare sell a highchair with a 3 point harness, no good to man nor beast. Now use a trip trap copy that MIL got in a furniture store cafe that was closing down, for nixy hee hee

DD will be 2 when next one is born (so 2.5 I suppose when we'll need a highchair) The tripp trapp grows with the child so that they are always at a perfect height for the table and eventually becomes an adult chair. DD won't be tall enough to sit comfortably at the table when I'd have to eject her so we'll have 2.

We all eat together at the table and I intend for this to continue when we have 2.

As for the clic clac Its about 12 inches deep probably. I've always found it big enough but haven't has to use it for play dough etc as she's always done it at the table. It doesn't have any form of a lip on it (If that is what you mean by shallow) and is completely flat - great for wiping down

Tripp Trapp was the best baby thing we bought, and is still going strong 9 years on after 3 Dc have used it.

three?! you've spent over £500 on highchairs? mad, i tells ya... MAD.

i have a fisher price healthy eating high chair which does the job.
it has 8 height positions (handy for when i pop ds in to watch dora while i shower on low and up high when watching me cook)
it has a dishwasherproof tray which is sectioned - csn be used with this or just plain flat tray underneath

tripp trapp all the way for us too, recommended it to a friend who didn't get it got a huge bulky thing from mothercare and ended up buying the TT, loves it and wonders why she bothered with the other one

Our friends bought a M&P one as they thought the Tripp Trapp was too expensive, and the Ikea one too ugly. Their LO is now 1, and they are buying a TT as the M&P is now rancid where the food collects in the seams.
