Look....find me the evidence that saying 6 months is increasing the number of women giving formula at 3 mths. From anywhere in the world. What a bizaare assumption.

Find me some evidence that it would be a good thing for the UK, uniquely in the world, to say '4 mths' - we never have, you know. The guidance was ''4 to 6 mths' for many years.

Where is the evidence that saying '5 a day' was decided because it was easier to aim for? In fact the guidance is 'at least 5 a day' - hard to make a strict comparison between that and bf, because there is no upper limit to fruit and veg intake, whereas there is to excl bf.

I didn't say the advice should be 4 months, I said it should be 4-6 months, given the lack of evidence for making it simply 6 months.

It could be of course that it makes no difference, but I doubt it. My experience of psychology is that people respond better when given smaller goals and this would be an example of that.
