Have very sore sides from laughing so much. Took DD to see HV (who is very strict power hungry bully IM(notsovery)HM).

DD still on 98th percentile. HV refrains from rebuking me on this matter since I told her last time that if she didn't stop going on about it I'd make sure we never came to see her again.

She asked about weaning. We explained that we were doing BLW. She'd never heard of it. So we told her it means that DD eats what we eat.

"I'm not sure that will work dear"

"But you puree it surely?"

"Well you must at least mush it?"

"But babies can't eat real food"

"But surely she chokes"

"But, but, but...honestly?"

"Oh FGS I give up"

my health centre is fab, they knew all about BLW and were delighted i was doing it, they even say in their weaning handbook that for bf-ers weaning at 6 months it's advisable to move straight to fingerfoods and mashed stuff and not do purrees

ds has spag bol tonight too and poor dp had a good half hour on the floor scraping it all up...... ds enjoyed it though!

he gets so excited when he sees food and giggles and claps his hands. dd was never that positive about food, it's such a nice change

Human food?! No, you really mustn't give babies human food. It's bad for them - they must have food specially for babies, made by large multinational companies. It is Written (by Cow & Gate, Heinz et al) that first foods must be a thin consistency, moving to slightly textured, then lumpy, followed by, at the age of seven, chicken nuggets.

If you don't do that, you run the very real risk that your child will Never Talk and their ears will grow so large they'll cover their eyes with flappingness as they run.

I told my HV that I had started BLW, she replied 'excellent'

I saw a baby eatihg soup with her fingers today She sprad it all over her plate and then licked it off her fingers. I told her Mum that BLW was very fashionable and that her baby was obviously doing it right!

I'm quite excited about starting but have another 3 months to go yet I think my HV would know what I was talking about...

Mind you he's proved that DD was a rank amateur when it comes to stealing cat biscuits and scoffing inappropriate foods (including large quantities of flour from the cupboard and an entire tub of Philadelphia filched from the fridge )

i do still fondly treasure my memory of my mother's face when she saw dd eating a cooked broccoli when she was tiny. She kept saying 'She'll choke..' and of course dd contined mashing until it was just a goey stump. No choking in sight.

She still loves the stuff now! Keep BLW, it's just the best thing and an excellent source of photos for their 18th birthday
