Weaning

Have very sore sides from laughing so much. Took DD to see HV (who is very strict power hungry bully IM(notsovery)HM).

DD still on 98th percentile. HV refrains from rebuking me on this matter since I told her last time that if she didn't stop going on about it I'd make sure we never came to see her again.

She asked about weaning. We explained that we were doing BLW. She'd never heard of it. So we told her it means that DD eats what we eat.

"I'm not sure that will work dear"
"But you puree it surely?"
"Well you must at least mush it?"
"But babies can't eat real food"
"But surely she chokes"
"But, but, but...honestly?"

"Oh FGS I give up"

dd is 16 months now and still takes that approach to baby corn, i'm afraid, shona. my dh does a lot of huffing and sighing when people spoon feed their babies near him, he thinks its so atavistic... i couldn't give a shit what people do but he is a proper unreconstructed blw snob!

kamikayzed lmao that had me giggling I have visions of ds2 doing that when we start with blw

When I go to get ds2 weighed out of curiosity I keep waiting for the hv to ask me something but they don't just ask if all is ok and nothing specific. Love them to ask me about weaning lol as ds2 is a big boy, 17lb 4oz at 15 weeks

whomovedmychocolate · 16/05/2007 22:31

Jodie, they save it up and then say things like 'you should have done something about this ages ago'.

My monkey is now 21.5lbs (she's 29 weeks). I had to carry her in a sling today for an hour. Tomorrow I'm going to lift a bus off a kitten

Ah well, if baby corn is no-go (and I'm not really sure why I bought it as I think it's pretty rubbish come to think of it) we have sweet potato, asparagus, red pepper, courgette, apple, banana, pear...

Hee hee! HV sounds like a joy to torment! Maybe you should tell her that you read on tinternet that catfood is full of haem iron so you've decided to feed that once a week

whomovedmychocolate, mind if I ask what make of high chair you've got? Just looked at your YouTube clip and it looks perfect for blw - I've been trying to find a nice wooden one with a straight back and big tray, just like yours. Thanks!

if you're still reading this shonaspurtle, baby corn might not be a no go - it is one of DD's FIRM favourites. I do steam it for 10 mins or so so the cobs are a bit floppy and more easily chewable with no teeth. Other faves include sugar snap peas (also lightly steamed) and plums.... think DD would live on plums if she could.
I posted about a week ago that BLW wasn't going that well - breakthrough this evening (i think because I spaced out "human food" from milk a bit more). I now LOVE BLW!

We started at lunchtime today!

Carrots - had a good chew of those
Apple wedge got a good sooking
Rice cake was spread about the place with gusto.

Gave him some of my broccoli at dinner time and he grabbed with great delight, rammed it in his mouth and looked absolutely appalled! Much spitting and retching and refused to eat anything else so we called it a day.

I'm thinking sweet potato tomorrow and a bit of banana. The last nappy had identifiable carrot and rice in it so some of it did go in (nice!).

My 13 month old baby shovelled down turkey curry with red and green peppers, mushrooms and noodles - with his own fork - this evening.

Go BLW! All I did was contain the shrapnel

ROFLMAO "human food!!!!!!!!!!!!!sooo funny

My HV is very supportive and even knew for herself that babies should be weaned at 6 months, and at that age they can start with finger food. Isn't she clever! [proud emoticon]

Your dd is clever too - love the photos
