Organix fruit and cereal bars- why not?

DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 14:17

I bought some for DS (8.5mths) and he loves them, but i just noticed the box says unsuitable for under 12mths.

Why? Is it because there's coconut in it perhaps?

I think it has to do with potential nut content and possible choking issue.

DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 14:28

aw well- there's no choking issue here. He scoffs them no problem.

honey?

DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 14:31

shall check for honey...

OP posts:
DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 14:31

no honey listed.

Maybe because babies of this age are "meant" to be only just eating lumps...

tassis · 06/03/2007 14:32

have you ever tried eating a whole one? surprisingly good but very very filling

DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 14:33

i'll just leave him carry on then

i can't see anything dangerous in them, and he loves them.

hunkermunker · 06/03/2007 14:35

DS2 was eating them about this age, btw. He loves them.

LucyJu · 06/03/2007 14:42

Agree with Hunker. IIRC, all of their hand-held food is labelled "from 12 months". DD2 was happliy scoffing them well before that.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 06/03/2007 14:44

DD has been having these for months no problem. Hadn't registered (or had forgotten) that they aren't 'meant' for under 1s.

terramum · 06/03/2007 17:10

According to their website they are made in a factory that handles nuts - so thats why maybe....They have a freephone number you could call & ask them on: Link

AitchTwoOh · 06/03/2007 18:00

i think all their labelling errs to the cautious. moon biscuits are fomr 9 months

Ceolas · 06/03/2007 21:48

Have just bought new raisin and cocoa. The DDs will be pleased!

NoBiggy · 06/03/2007 23:18

They go down an absolute treat. We have 4 varieties in the cupboard, and I have to offer one of each, and a humzinger, to dd1 in the manner of a magician offering a pack of cards.

We make our own entertainment here.

BizzyDint · 07/03/2007 09:01

it's because oraganix assume you started on purees and are working your way through lumps then solids, so a cereal bar at 6 months or whatever seems like too young. but of course it isn't really. dd has stuff that says from 9 months and from 12 months. no problem. it's a consistency thing, not really an ingredient thing.

nogoes · 07/03/2007 09:02

Ds has been known to eat 4 in one sitting .

tassis · 07/03/2007 10:09

4 in one sitting???!!

have you ever tried eating one, they're incredibly filling!

Piffle · 07/03/2007 10:15

dd is 4.5 and loves them
The new cocoa ones and carrot cake are really good
One of the few true no shit at all kids foods out there

have ordered some carrot cake ones for him (and me!)

I'm not anti them but they are also full of sugar. Concentrated grape juice IS sugar!

It annoys me that products like this imply they are healthy because of no added sugar when they just have sugar in a different form, they are still very sweet.

Better to think of them as a nice organic biscuit IMO

My ds loves them but please dont think they are majorly different to rusks or other buscuits that state SUGAR on the label.

I have no issues with sugar
I am very careful with what dd eats.
sure beats artificial sweeteners in my book

FWIw most of the suagr comes from the raisins
I have ano added sugar muesli that is 18% sugar because of the dried fruit/

Rasp bars are 3% apple juice 7% raspberry juice
orange ones 6% apple juice
carrot cake
carrot juice 11%
cocoa bars 10% apple juice

No grape juice and not 27% sweetened

I mean an apple is 18% sugars, but we all like our kids to eat those...
