Question About Starting To Feed

Hi. I have decided to wait to feed DS3 until 6 months, this time I have the confidence to tell those pushing for 4 month feeds that I'm not doing it. But I was wondering if it is ok to give some fruit in http://www.johnlewis.com/230490322/Product.aspx?s_pccid=pc_gs__& this mesh feeder at 5 months? If he seems interested in food would that be ok? I mean occasionally, not as a regular thing.

Well it's upto you but by doing this you are weaning early even if its just some fruit

I've weaned 2, one at 4 months on purees as recommended by my HV in the Olden days and one with blw at 6 months. I can really, really recommend not buying any unnecessary products, like the John Lewis one, and just waiting until the 6 months. The fruit probably won't hurt but will have less calories than the milk, and the milk is all Lo needs to help them grow and develop.

If you wait until 6 months there is no need for any equipment, your Lo will be able to eat more or less what you eat, provided you eat fairly healthily of course.

I am keen to do blw, as like you I did the purees for other DCs. Just wondered if he had the occasional slurp of fruit would it inhibit the blw process. The others enjoyed sucking on fruit in the mesh. And I enjoyed it too-except for a regrettable incident with some blackberries!

I gave DD frozen expressed breast milk (don't know if formula would work too?) in one of those as she wasn't particularly keen on bottles and tended to just have enough to get her through from a bottle when DP was away for a few hours which made for a crankier baby and a demanding transition when DP returned. And she'd take a bit more milk when frozen.

I don't think a slurp of fruit would do anything to inhibit the process (indeed the earlier introduction of more bacteria to the gut may help it) but I wouldn't bother adding more carbs to a babies diet, it's not what they need.

Don't know if it would inhibit blw but I'd still recommend waiting if you can, you'll probably find it so much easier. Dd went straight into family food with no faff.
