DS is 6 months and I gave him baby rice for the first time yesterday, but I'm ready to just dive in with real food. I've got organic potatoes, carrots and sweet potates.
Which should I give him tonight?

god sazhig, nearly 7 months? you are amazing. TBH ds isn't quite 6months yet (25 weeks today in fact) but my boobs were getting sore trying to keep up with him!!

I would go for apple instead, followed by pear and maybe afterwards sweet potatoes, carrots and would not bother with the potatoes until later.

Blandmum · 17/03/2006 15:57

I went for savory first and went for carrots

Mazzystar · 17/03/2006 15:58

carrots first, then butternut squash, brocolli and avocado and cucumber.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/03/2006 16:48

HOw do you cook the butternut squash?

boil or roast or sort of steam/stirfry/sweat it in a small amount of water. chop it up quite small or grate it if doing the latter. it was well-received here for quite a while.

I did some brocilli and cauliflour today and DD loved it. I'm amazed!

thanks pmd - It didn't feel all that amazing at the time - we had a really crappy start to bf so I really wasnt that keen on offering other foods - took so long to get it right that it seemed a shame to give him solids Blush. Not sure why I worried though - he's still quite attached to them!

I'll second butternut squash - its a fave with 6mnth ds.
Yesterday he had broccoli and peas which was an incredible green colour, and that was gobbled down.
Another tasty veg is celeriac, and you just chop and steam that like any other root veg - he loved it.
The only veg he really didn't go for was potato, but I think it must taste a bit bland.
Pears aways go down well, and are mildly laxative.
I'm away to try sweet potato next!
Good luck with the weaning!

I gave gim a (cooked) carrot stick yesterday and he ate a bit of it as well as a bit of puree.
So we shall perservere.
Think i might do sweet potato tonight.
Thank you all for your continued support!!!

all of them

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/03/2006 19:44

I gave sweet potato tonight. It didn't go down very well. It was a smoother puree this time. But don't think he liked it much. There was a lot more gagging! Made quite a lot so I'll try again later with it.
I know they say to try things a few days in a row but do I really have to?
Thought I might try him on fruit next week. Maybe too big a variety isn't such a good idea though.
Geez, this is hard!
