Thanks, Hunkermunker.
This is a lovely simple guide. I particularly like the idea of being led by what your baby wants and enjoys, and giving mashed food and finger food rather than loads of purees. One of the benefits of weaning at 6 months.

hunkermunker · 28/09/2005 21:00

That's OK, Dobbin - just thought it might answer some of the more commonly asked questions (and also it's nice to know that every single HV has access to it and should've read it ).

just out of interest why do the baby food company make food for 4mths when the government recomend 6 months??

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 22:25

Because the law allows them to (at the moment) and they want the revenue.

Since there are a number of weaning-related threads in active convos atm...bump!

Leogaela · 13/10/2005 08:50

Thanks! I agree that its a nicely done guide.

I was interested that they say not to add other foods to milk in a bottle. Its really common in Switzerland (that's where I am) to add cereals to milk in a bottle. Any ideas why they recommend not to do that?

morocco · 13/10/2005 09:06

lots of countries add cereal mix stuff to bottles
I think the reason the govt might give is that it's a choking risk or chewing is essential to develop good speech or some other twaddle but personally I just think they're a bit uptight about it 9that's my technical explanation)

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 09:08

It's forcefeeding IMO.

katymac · 13/10/2005 09:42

Can't get the link....what am I doing wrong?

SoupDragon · 13/10/2005 09:47

Never worked out how it can be a choking hazard to put cereal in a bottle - it has to be runny enough to get through a hole in a teat! I don't think it's necessary though.

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 09:57

Because people make the hole bigger or use a Y-cut teat so it can come out thick, SD.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/10/2005 10:07

Cereal in bottles is also strongly linked to obesity, from what I know.

Leogaela · 13/10/2005 10:27

I don't agree that its force feeding but it does make sense that it is linked to obesity, hmmm.

Feeling a bit guilty now I have given ds cereal in a bottle on the occassion that he has been too tired to eat before going to bed , if he hasn't eaten I know he will wake up more often than usual to feed if he only has milk.

hhhhenleyonthames · 13/10/2005 10:44

Oi - hunker - out the back....

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 10:44

PMSL

OK, just don't shove baby rice down my froat, guv

katymac · 13/10/2005 20:34

Sorry chaps - I still can't get to the link....any ideas?

katymac · 14/10/2005 22:26

I still can't access that link..please tell me what I'm doing wrong??

hunkerpumpkin · 14/10/2005 22:33

It takes a little while to load because it's a pdf. And you might need to download the Adobe Acrobat reader?

katymac · 14/10/2005 22:34

I have v6.0 - do I need a newer one?

strugstu · 14/10/2005 22:37

hinkerminkerhunkerpumkin.

i object to your labeling HV's as mental.. as a newly qualified HV i still have my sanity..however as we speak i await a frontal lobotomy ......

startingtobehalloweenylover · 14/10/2005 22:42

to force feed someone you have to make them eat something that they are refusing

katymac · 14/10/2005 22:42

I am so doing something wrong - it keeps freezing the computer.....then I have to Ctrl Alt Del and end task

I seem to have done it about 25 times now Grrrr

hunkerpumpkin · 14/10/2005 22:44

Ah, can you minimise everything and see if Acrobat is asking you to check for updates?

And no, meant if you come across any HVs who are mental, feel free to quote this at them Syntax not as it should've been!

katymac · 14/10/2005 22:46

All I have open is MN (to get the link)...then it all freezes......bu&&er
