PC Gamers! What do you enjoy?

I find it so hard to find new games that I enjoy! And more importantly, ones where I can drop and pick up as needed. I work full time, have a 2 hour commute and with kids' activities and birthday parties on weekends I really only get to spend a few hours on an occasional Sunday gaming.

Currently I'm playing My Time at Sandrock on early access. It's working very well for me because I don't get to play too often, so the new content release every month or so is great for me!

I loved:

  • it takes two
  • disco elysium
  • witcher 3 (couldn't get into 2)
  • stardew valley
  • WoW (back in the day)
  • The Wolf Among Us
  • A Night in the Woods

I also liked Dragon Age Origins and RDR2, but I stopped having time to play for a while and now I feel it's been too long to pick up and I won't remember them.

I also still like the Sims for exactly the same reasons I did when I was 14 😂 but one or two weekends bingeing it and I don't want to play it again for a year! (We don't own any consoles apart from the switch and I played Animal Crossing for a bit but found it too rigid an environment for my availability.)

I know this is an old post but bumping as I’m in the same boat. Considering resubscribing to WoW for a bit.

Kathy Rain

The Grey Matter

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 01:16

A Night in the Woods was lovely. I loved all the characters. Ouch when Mae's laptop got infected with unsavory websites 😤

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 01:17

Kentucky Route Zero? Might work

Hawkins003 · 18/02/2023 01:24

@Hawkins003 How is Call of Duty? Does it keep you up?

DinosaurOfFire · 18/02/2023 01:30

I love the Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim is beautiful and can be popped into for 10 minutes or 2 hours depending on how long you've got.

The Civilization games are fab but addictive!

Also Spiritfarer is fab, cosy, about death and dying but is a management type game, again you can play for hours or minutes. Calico is nice and peaceful and a similar sort of vibe.

I also enjoy minecraft! Creating things, mining, exploring, fighting pixilated monsters. Its good fun and can be done collaboratively too.

It's excellent on the mode called dmz, as they have added computer controlled bots, which are very good, I prefer sniping I play for around an hr here and there it's a mix really.

Hawkins003 · 18/02/2023 01:32

Game wise, I do enjoy learning the tactics and skills, gives you some good military training.

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 01:34

@Hawkins003 How does one apply this to RL? 😋 I suppose CoD is mostly guys tho

Situational awareness, have escape routes planned, know the cities your in, study various reports on the cities about different aspects, know the locations of all major tourist areas, keep up-to date with local news about what's going on in x areas, never presume your always safe in an area, always scan for potential risk checkpoints,

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 01:37

@DinosaurOfFire Skyrim is beautiful but most of them want to fight. People say the mods help with making the game even better, never tried tho

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 01:39

@Hawkins003 Well done Hawkins, impressive response, I never knew CoD could be of use like that but you taught me something new tonight. Thanking you 🙂

Your welcome, it's basically Jason Bourne style training , but the game reinforces those skills

Ooo watching this post having just spent 4 hours playing Civilisation 6 🙈
My go to games currently are sims, far cry, skyrim, red dead redemption and two point hospital. I had a very unhealthy obsession with theme hospital when I was a teen and two point hospital is such a good updated version!

Theme hospital was a classic,

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 19:03

Did anyone try out two point uni?

DinosaurOfFire · 18/02/2023 19:08

@cassiatwenty Most of the NPCs in the wild do want to fight yep- I changed my settings to easy mode though as it just wasn't fun for me to try and defeat enemies at a high level- I like the game and the fighting but not if it's getting stressful dying and reloading over and over. I've almost 300 hours on Steam now and have only just started my 2nd playthrough- I go on all the little side quests fetching and carrying etc. I haven't tried mods yet, I feel like there's so much in the base game that I don't need to change it at the moment.

@Isthisbatcountry I loved theme point hospital! I spent hours playing that when I was supposed to be revising for my A-Levels. I take it you would recommend two point hospital then?

Norachance · 18/02/2023 19:16

Im currently a bit obsessed with Dinkum on Steam. Also Valheim.

Yes, it’s good, a bit more relaxed as you don’t have people dying all over the shop if you get it wrong! I think I still prefer two point hospital though.

I have also logged an indecent number of hours on Skyrim! Also enjoyed Greedfall as an old school RPG.

I’ve just bought the Pharaoh remaster and am determined to beat it this time after playing it on and off for 24 years. Did anyone else play any of the city builders back in the day?

Hawkins003 · 18/02/2023 19:23

Also a classic the broken sword series.

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 22:01

Broken Sword 5 was ace! That bit when you played a little as George and then as Nico. Animation and Paris setting were nice. You even got to see Sacre Colour a bit. Didn't get to play episode 2 tho

cassiatwenty · 18/02/2023 22:08

Sacré Coeur I meant

@Isthisbatcountry Civ 6 was a bit hard

@DinosaurOfFire Yes, they were a bit hostile. People do seem to enjoy Skyrim a lot. There were even YouTube vids of a granny playing it, and she got a lot of fans because people were so touched by her gameplay

BattleofBeamfleot · 19/02/2023 01:22

Thank you, so many recommendations! And I've remembered that Valheim is on my must-try list.

I've started playing Disney's Dreamlight Valley last weekend but it's dull and I don't much care for the quests or storyline. And I've been reading on fan forums about the latest update which is monetisation content-heavy, which is off putting.

That's a great point about playing Skyrim on easy to stop NPCs attacking - I played it years ago but found all the aggro frustrating and kept getting attacked for accidentally killing chickens.

OP, glad we could be of service. Try something out and let us know how you like it.

I can't wait for The Wolf Among Us 2 and curious to see how Dragon Age 4 will be like, if it ever comes out 😅
