PC Gamers! What do you enjoy?

I find it so hard to find new games that I enjoy! And more importantly, ones where I can drop and pick up as needed. I work full time, have a 2 hour commute and with kids' activities and birthday parties on weekends I really only get to spend a few hours on an occasional Sunday gaming.

Currently I'm playing My Time at Sandrock on early access. It's working very well for me because I don't get to play too often, so the new content release every month or so is great for me!

I loved:

  • it takes two
  • disco elysium
  • witcher 3 (couldn't get into 2)
  • stardew valley
  • WoW (back in the day)
  • The Wolf Among Us
  • A Night in the Woods

I also liked Dragon Age Origins and RDR2, but I stopped having time to play for a while and now I feel it's been too long to pick up and I won't remember them.

I also still like the Sims for exactly the same reasons I did when I was 14 😂 but one or two weekends bingeing it and I don't want to play it again for a year! (We don't own any consoles apart from the switch and I played Animal Crossing for a bit but found it too rigid an environment for my availability.)

@cassiatwenty I loved The Wolf Among Us SO much, and it's been such a long time since - I can't wait for the sequel either!

Great thread, I’ve just started My Time
in Portia and really enjoying it so far, its sort of like a blend of Minecraft, SimCity, FarmVille, and the Sims. 😂

I’d also recommend resubbing to WoW - Dragonflight is excellent. Mostly for selfish reasons I’m always looking for new people to play with so if you do I’d happily join you on some quests/dungeons ☺️

Two Point Campus is fun, but very much the same as the hospital so it depends if you’re looking for something completely new or not.

BattleofBeamfleot · 19/02/2023 10:15

@Maybepossibly22 I miss WoW but I would never have the time for it these days! Though to be fair it might be my guild I miss - I stopped playing in 2010 but I still see or talk to some friends I met through it!

I've never played Theme Hospital so Two Point Hospital might be new to me, although I had friends who adored it. Was that the one where you had to clean up "the squits"?

Oh if you like MTAP, you'll love Sandrock too. I'd recommend finishing Portia first though, but Sandrock is a good step up in my opinion even though it's still in early access. So much more content and humour, your Builder doesn't have the infuriatingly breathy voice, and the dialogue bank is noticeably richer - the townspeople respond to individual gifts, so it feels fresher.

And the Most Wanted bandit in town is devastatingly good-looking, so there's that... 🤣

Me and DH have enjoyed Plate Up! And the remastered Age of Empires 2, great if you have someone to play with. Quake remastered is good too if you want some nostalgia

Age of empires series was and is great, also recommend the Warhammer 40k soul Storm, that's the whole base building ect

@cassiatwenty Thank you for the Kathy Rain recommendation! I just finished that and I enjoyed it. Particularly on point: Kathy's too-cool-for-school sarcasm that was everything I wanted to be when I was a kid in the 90s, and find utterly insufferable in young people now I'm in my 40s! 😂

@Hawkins003 Thank you for those thoughtful suggestions. I have to say those are more DH's style of game than mine - in fact over the Covid lockdowns, he’s been playing AoE duos with the same friend he originally played with in high school/university, back when lag was everyone's issue and you had to wait for the dial-up modem to do its thing... hearing the bugle-call conversion warning again was like the return of an old friend!

To be honest it's part of the reason I'm looking for new games- DH has had so much enjoyment from those for years (literally decades I guess!) and I'm a little envious. He likes match-style competitive RTS games and I like storytelling+sandbox ones, but it's harder to find ones you can just pick up now and again.

Story ones / sandbox id recommend the broken sword series it's quite good

Also a WoW player. I had about an 8 year break (mists to end of bfa) but I'm enjoying dragonflight, it does lend itself to more casual play these days.

Always glad of people to potter about with!
