What's your fave milk alternative?

I want to move away from cows milk but not sure where to start, there are so many options! I usually have cereal or porridge a couple of times a week, not a big coffee drinker but I do like some milk when I have a cup. What's your favourite milk alternative in terms of flavour/consistency?

definitely won't be buying oatly again now I know about the issues, thank you PP!

postcardfromme · 23/02/2021 22:42

Oatly for me but will now be reading up on the ethical issues??! It's nice in coffee but not in tea

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/02/2021 22:48

Almond milk - the barista type Costa use. I prefer this in cafe bought coffees. But home made cashew milk is a lovely alternative too - you just have to make sure you add it when the water is isn’t too hot.

Cookerhood · 23/02/2021 22:58

Alpro barista oat milk here, or we've just started getting the Tesco own brand one which foams really well. I've heard good things about hemp milk but I haven't tried it.

Marina26 · 23/02/2021 23:02

Morrison's own brand oat milk from the fridge, 85p a carton and so nice Smile

JM10 · 23/02/2021 23:03

Coconut, but I only use milk in coffee and cooking

floofycroissant · 23/02/2021 23:04

Hemp milk, a lot less sweeter than even the unsweetened oat/soya/almond.

LadyBugg · 23/02/2021 23:05

@StuntCroissant I was considering oato, I just seen the other day that I can get it delivered. I really love Oatly Barista, don't like blue Oatly at all, I think I find it too watery and sweet maybe. How does Oato compare would you say, if you don't mind me asking! Thanks Smile

partyatthepalace · 23/02/2021 23:13

Cashew is the best I think.

But a lot less good than dairy Grin

FredAstairesChair · 04/03/2021 18:36

Rio vegan coffee creamer for coffee definitely.
Oat milk for tea
Soy for baking/everything else

PhantomErik · 04/03/2021 18:48

I changed to non dairy milk 20 years ago & soya milk was the most widely available at the time so that's what I went for.

I enjoy others but sweetened soya is my every day milk. I have it in tea, coffee, cereal, cook with it etc.

Aldi is my favourite, followed by Tesco own brand.

cloudcett · 06/03/2021 21:46

Oat milk in porridge, but I drink coffee black. Tried almond milk for a bit, but was concerned re ethical issues, so back to oat milk. I think it's so much about personal preference, so try a few and see which you like best!

lothermand · 06/03/2021 23:04

I have used soya for years. A few years back I thought I'd try and wean myself off soya. I tried oat/almond/coconut, they were just ok, the hemp was positively revolting (I am basing this on my tea!) so now I use Sproud which is pea based. Very mild and inoffensive, and makes a great cup of teaWink

HermioneKipper · 24/03/2021 15:14

Coconut milk all the way here. The barista one is amazing. Love hazelnut too.

Everyone raves about oat but I find it overly creamy and leaves a film on everything

AltiC · 15/05/2021 12:35

The Aldi unsweetened oat milk is nice (and cheap!) I get that as it's fortified unlike the Lidl version. Oat milk is the only dairy substitute I can tolerate in tea, anything else changes the flavour of the tea too much.

cushioncovers · 18/06/2021 10:26

Oatly baristas long life cartons

It's always in stock and can be kept in a cupboard until you open it. We love it

daysofpearlyspencer · 18/06/2021 10:31

I like Lidl soy sweetened with apple juice on cereal

ppeatfruit · 20/06/2021 16:06

I've been off dairy milk for yonks. I have BonSoy soya milk when I'm feeling rich Grin I only buy the organic ones because the normal type soya plant industry is very bad for the environment.

I also use the Organic Rude Health Barista Almond milk when I'm in England which is amazing (cheaper and tastier than other almond milks) Though we can't get it delivered because of Brexit (we're off and on in France and they don't sell it here). I have tried to make my own oat milk but it's not very successful. Plenish oat milk is nice without any 'fillers' too

hate that you get a mouthful of bleedin' sunflower oil if you don't want it in sooo many of the plant milks.

factmr · 07/10/2021 16:39

You should try coffee flavored milk or vanilla flavored milk. They taste good and are healthy.

LublinToDublin · 07/10/2021 16:42

Minor figures oat milk.

LovesColourGreen · 06/12/2021 14:45

I've only tried oat, soya and rice milk so far. Oat and soya are nice in tea and coffee, but awful in porridge or cereal. I persist and try the other milks mentioned here until I find a favourite. I like dairy milk so much though I am struggling!

Rice milk is disgusting, it is far too watery

RedHot22 · 27/12/2021 19:38

Oatly semi

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/01/2022 16:39

oatley, I live in Glastonbury and they do the best oatley latte ever. It''s better than any coffee I ever had elsewhere.

1positivity · 03/01/2022 16:49

Cashew milk - can be expensive though and not always on offer.

talkagooddiet · 22/01/2023 22:26

I much prefer califia oat milk to oatly and you can use a lot less in tea/coffee
