Vegan version of hidden supermarket gems

Everysinglebloodytime · 12/09/2020 09:00

There's a general thread about hidden gems that you've discovered in the supermarket. Inspired by that cracking idea I thought it might be nice to have a vegan version to save trawling through the other thread.

Was inspired by peanut punch and then gutted to discover it has milk in (but also now thinking of making a peanut butter milk shake or smoothie so if anyone has any suggestions for nice ways to do this, feel free to add Wink)

Tesco free from coconut oil alternative to jalapeño and chilli cheddar
Coconuts organic chocolate orange ice cream (at Tesco)
Dolmio plant based bolognese
Tesco plant chef coconut korma sauce
Sainsbury’s roasted beetroot and mint houmous
Asda free from caramel rice squares
La Boulangere vegan croissants
Chicago Town stuffed sticky bbq jackfruit pizza

Everysinglebloodytime · 12/09/2020 14:10

I like the sound of the ice cream and the pizza!

I second the Chicago town pizza!

Morrisons raspberry/strawberry doughnuts.
Jus rol croissants, pain au chocolat or cinnamon buns.
Murray mints.

Everysinglebloodytime · 12/09/2020 14:22

I didn't know about JusRol things

Co op donuts are also vegan - guilty pleasure 😊

Sainsbury’s free from Greek style cheese and the asda mature cheddar alternative in the red pack are the best supermarket vegan cheeses in my opinion.

Naturli butter in Sainsbury’s.

The large Riya naan breads (Asda I think) are unexpectedly vegan and very nice.

Tesco used to do Zest pesto which was vegan and delicious but I haven’t seen it in a while.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2020 14:24

Best supermarket pizzas are the White Rabbit ones in Sainsbury’s. More expensive but worth it.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2020 14:25

Actually the coop has a lovely vegan fake cheese pizza that’s pretty nice too. It’s in the chilled section. Their ultimate plant burgers are my favourite beef type ones.

Sainsburies beetroot humous ...gorgeous

cricketmum84 · 13/09/2020 08:48

Iceland's no duck spring rolls
Iceland (again) vegan pizza, no fake cheese on it just a hummous base and topped with black kale and mushrooms, it's the 💣
Lidl used to do these little protein pots with edamame beans and spinach with a ginger and soy dressing that were so nice! Haven't seen them for ages though :(

cricketmum84 · 13/09/2020 08:59

I can also second the plant based Tesco korma. My DD(11) absolutely loves it and she's usually very fussy with Indian food. It's a bit mild for my tastes but I don't like korma anyway. Great with quorn vegan chicken pieces for a quick and easy tea.

PurpleDaisies · 13/09/2020 09:05

I like the Sainsbury’s plant pioneers frozen meatballs. Fry’s chicken nuggets are the best fake chicken nuggets in the land!

The asda duck spring rolls and cauliflower popcorn in the frozen section are lush.

bestbefore · 13/09/2020 09:18

Aldi salted caramel non diary "magnums" amazing...they are diary free for sure so I think vegan.
And Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Granola Pistachio Dark Chocolate - which 'may contain milk' but are amazing.. www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/305056339

cricketmum84 · 13/09/2020 10:37

Ooh Lidl's soy yoghurt is really good too, and Cheaper than alpro.

Everysinglebloodytime · 13/09/2020 11:03

I need to branch out with where I shop!

I did find a pancake mix for American style cinnamon pancakes the other day which was amazing but I think it was in Tesco and they don't seem to have it now.

Morrisons Vegan pizza is delicious

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 13/09/2020 19:37

Found out recently that the Maryland sugar free choc chip cookies are vegan. I was a bit sceptical about them at first because ya know, sugar free and all that but they do have sweetener in them and they are delicious.

I am not sure what the logic of putting milk in their regular cookies but not in their sugar free ones is but I can have chocolate chip cookies again from the supermarket so I am not complaining.

Ricekrispie22 · 14/09/2020 06:20

Most of the Belvita breakfast biscuits are vegan. I love the blueberry soft bakes and the chocolate hazelnut filled biscuits. Also partial to a fig roll!

There’s a new Mars oat drink groceries.asda.com/product/oat-nut-drinks/mars-oat-drink/1000215489911 which I haven’t tried yet.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 14/09/2020 13:06

@PearsMorgan

Oreos Kitten gummy sweets from Waitrose Coco pops Montezumas dark chocolate and peanut butter eggs
Just FYI, you need to be careful with cereal as whilst a lot of them don't have anything obviously non vegan in them most of them are fortified with non vegan vitamin D which comes from sheep wool.

Kellogs coco pops aren't vegan. Tbh I don't think any of Kellogs cereal is vegan but am happy to be told otherwise.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 15/09/2020 22:02

Found out today that Rowntrees are making their fruit pastelles vegan friendly. Also jammie dodgers went vegan (again) recently as well.

Beef pot noodles are also vegan as well as a couple of others and some of the cheap instant noodles are also vegan friendly. I know Tesco chicken 14p ramen noodles are vegan and are even labelled vegan.

Walkers prawn cocktail and roast chicken crisps are vegan.

KateF · 15/09/2020 22:09

Tried Aldi's spicy cauliflower pizza tonight - good but definitely spicy
Aldi vegan sausage rolls (fussy teens didn't suss they were vegan!)
Aldi no steak bakes
