Vegan and British

In October I am visiting a relative in USA, staying 2 nights in her home.
I wanted to bring her some Scotties butter shortbread... but turns out she's vegan.
Any ideas what I could take instead?

Ideally something tasty & not expensive.

She'd also like some kitsch merchandise linked to Princes William & Harry. But she can probably get huge selection to buy of that stuff for herself, anyway (online).

Thanks for any help.

Soreen banana loaf? (Malt loaf isn't vegan but banana loaf is)

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 16/08/2017 16:21

Bourbons and custard creams are usually vegan and quintissentially British!

Could you make some shortbread?

Oreos here are also British when they aren't in America, same for skittles and starburst.

Is she American?

potatoscowls · 16/08/2017 16:22

A lot of bourbon chocolate biscuits are vegan - i think Tesco and Sainsbury's own brand are, for example. I've known visitors from abroad to fill a suitcase to take home with them.

Plain hobnobs are vegan as well

potatoscowls · 16/08/2017 16:25

ivenoidea are you sure about the custard creams? i never find vegan ones, they've all got milk in... happy to be corrected!

ShowPineapple · 16/08/2017 16:29

Choc chip hobnobs are vegan,
Marks and spencers Veggie percy pigs sweets,

Just checked and the brand I get is lovemore custard creams from Ocado. You're right potato - sorry!

Plexie · 16/08/2017 16:53

Some of Montezuma's chocolate bars are vegan. I was going to recommend the 100% cocoa bar but I see they also do some dark chocolate plus different flavours that are also suitable for vegans.

Even the Black Forest Gateau (ie dark chocolate and cherry) bar is vegan, and it has a large Union Jack on the packaging.

You can buy accidentally vegan shortbread in Tesco! Bigger ones usually have it, in a purple packet. By this company: m.facebook.com/duncansofdeeside/?locale2=en_GB (not sure how to make clickable - it's Duncans of Deeside).

ILoveGrammar0 · 16/08/2017 19:00

Original and chocolate chip Hobnobs are vegan.

Accidentally vegan snack foods

ragged · 16/08/2017 19:29

Choc chip hobnobs might be good. I want something that isn't obviously niche vegan product, iyswim, but is especially British.

Some things on EyeHalve's list are very American, anyway, like Oreos & Doritos.

I just came back to the US from home and stuffed my suitcase with veggie Percy pigs, gingernut biscuits, oatcakes, hula hoops and a lot of various varieties of salt and vinegar crisps

Warbaton crumpets.

Crumpets are fairly British aren't they?

DuvetCaterpillar · 19/08/2017 09:53

Macsween vegetarian haggis is also vegan, I believe, but tricky to get hold of year round unless you're in Scotland.

ememem84 · 19/08/2017 10:53

I've just looked at the accidentally vegan list. I'm suprised but also not suprised that chicken pot noodle is vegan...

Mum2OneTeen · 19/08/2017 23:29

Vegan Oreos would be good if the American Ines aren't vegan - it's something classic that she'll never normally be able to enjoy but can eat the British version Smile

Gingernaut · 19/08/2017 23:43

Green & Black's dark chocolate. Except the burnt toffee one.
