Coastal towns with good walks

Looking for recommendations for coastal towns to spend a few days in 😊 Somewhere fairly easy to reach by public transport from London, with good coastal walks.

Recently, we’ve been to Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Bournemouth, Tenby and Brighton. I know some of these don’t have the best reputation, but we enjoyed them all 😁 We always travel off-season.

Any other places you’d recommend? 🙏

I quite liked Exmouth seafront when we went a couple of years ago. Assume there are nice walks nearby

Whitstable has a few nice walks. At least enough for a few days.

Sheringham Cromer North Norfolk

Eastbourne and walking some or all of the Seven Sisters.

Dawlish and Teignmouth area?

I've always enjoyed the coastal walks around Salcombe/East Portlemouth.

Other coastal path locations are around Woolacombe/Ilfracombe.

Also the Lizard.

Falmouth! Three train stations in the town, really decent bus network if you want to do a one way long hike and heaps of walks on the SW Coast Path you can do from the town. Also the ferry to St Mawes if you want to walk on the Roseland Peninsula

On the fast train from St Pancras:

• Folkestone (Lower Leas Coastal Park, East Cliff and Warren Country Park)
• Sandwich (You can see the local seal colony by walking the Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve trail)
• Deal, you can walk along the sea front to Kingsdown and visit Deal and then Walmer Castles. Lovely little town as well with decent cafes and restaurants.

Anywhere on the South West coast path will have amazing walks, most of it with plenty of variation, ups and downs, headlands and bays etc. Dorset around Swanage has some fabulous coastal landmarks you can visit. In Cornwall I would say the Roseland Peninsular and Fal Estury or the Helford River areas have amazing scenery with flooded river valleys.

There are a few direct trains each day to Alnmouth on the beautiful Northumberland coast. Fabulous walking. In the other direction I live the Salcombe area.

Cardiff, stay in the Bay, walk over the barrage to Penarth for lunch. Catch the bus to Porthcawl and walk along the seafront there.

Eastbourne and the South Downs - you can walk up from the prom practically on to the Downs. Go on to the Seven Sisters coastal walk or through Friston Forest. There are buses if you want to do a linear walk.

St Marychurch Oddicombe beach to Babbacome Beach, over Walls Hill and down to Ilsham Valley. Take Bishops Walk to Hopes Nose and down Meadfoot Beach. From Meadfoot over Daddyhole plain and down to Torquay Harbour. Nice walk along the seafront to Corbyn Head, Livermead and down to Preston/Paignton. From Paignton walk around Roundham Head to Goodrington beach. From Goodrigton take the Coastal path to Broadsands and Elberry Cove (most pretty). From Elberry take the coastal path to Brixham.
Best walk ever.

Norfolk.
train to Norwich is 1hr 50.
Bus number X44 goes to Cromer.

The Norfolk Coast path is lovely and there is a Coast Hopper bus. So you can walk in one direction then bus back to your starting location rather than just turn around and walk back. So you can do however many miles you fancy. The section around Wells and Stiffkey is my favourite.

As others have said 💯 Eastbourne. 90 mins by train from London Victoria and you have foot access to the South Downs and Cuckmere Haven.

The start/finish of the South Downs way is at the end of the Esplanade - and the walk is glorious over to Beachy Head and beyond. Best bit is there is a bus that runs every 10-15 mins between Eastbourne and Brighton along the coast so you can combine walking with a bus home if knackered or bus to another start point and walk back.

Eastbourne much quieter, smaller and less sketchy than Brighton.People laugh about Eastbourne but I really like it - Towner Gallery, some nice quirky shops and cafes, lovely Esplanade….

Conwy, direct train to Llandudno Junction about 3 hours from Euston then 15 min walk or short bus/taxi journey to Conwy.

Northumberland

Craster to Embleton via Dunstanburgh Castle .

Train from King's Cross to Morpeth, and then bus . Perhaps an overnight stay .

The sw coastal path starts at Bristol why not gradually work your way around, along the n Somerset coast there’s public transport to get you back to your accommodation

Margate or Broadstairs and do the Coastal walk between the two (it also goes down to Ramsgate).

The Isle of Wight have lovely coastal and inland walks though some of the coastal walks may have been affected by landslides
