Coastal towns with good walks

Looking for recommendations for coastal towns to spend a few days in 😊 Somewhere fairly easy to reach by public transport from London, with good coastal walks.

Recently, we’ve been to Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Bournemouth, Tenby and Brighton. I know some of these don’t have the best reputation, but we enjoyed them all 😁 We always travel off-season.

Any other places you’d recommend? 🙏

Swanage is lovely and you can walk to Old Harry Rocks

Hastings to Rye via Winchelsea is a beautiful walk.

Swansea. Walking round to mumbles is good but you can also get the bus out onto Gower and do parts of the Gower coastal path.

Hi @Trav3l . Scarborough is easily accessible by train via York and we have absolutely beautiful coastal walks along the Cleveland Way. The area is served well by regular bus services in case you need a break from walking!

Whitby, on the edge of the North York Moors

Whitby is a good one to look at. The walks around the abbey and along the coast are lovely, and the town has plenty of cafes and little shops. It is especially nice when it is quieter out of season.
Swanage is another option. You can get straight onto the coastal paths from the town and walk along the Jurassic Coast. Falmouth is worth considering too if Cornwall appeals.

Come to the Isle of Man. Fly fairly cheaply from Gatwick if you book in advance. Ancient castles…it’s great.

If it's not too far for you, Penzance is great for coastal walking. Good easy walk from Pz out to Marazion and St Michael's Mount then also plenty of public transport to take you into the surrounding coastal towns/villages e.g. Porthcurno, Land's End, Sennen Cove, St Ives, to walk from those starting points instead.

Reculver is a lovely coastal walk to Margate and back, or vice-versa. There's also the one along the cliffs to the South Foreland lighthouse at Dover - both about 2 hrs.

Anywhere from Sandbanks to Lymington on the south coast. Absolutely beautiful

Hengisbury Head nature reserve to Mudeford Sandbank beach is spectacular. You walk along the high top of Hegisbury Head and suddenly see this most beautiful view

Saltburn in the North East.

I really want to get the bus from Leeds to Whitby, walk halfway along the Cinder Track, stay over, then walk to Scarborough and get the bus home. Shame Boggle Hole YHA is a bit too close to Whitby!

I live in Swansea. You can walk from the marina right around to Mumbles, there is a path adjacent to the beach. You can also walk the Welsh coastal path. There are loads of places to walk and a direct train from Paddington.

The south west coast path starts at Minehead in Somerset and finishes at Poole in Dorset. Definitely does not start in Bristol.
