Lincolnshire - things to do

We're off to Lincolnshire on Friday for a week. We're staying in an Airbnb near Grantham. 'We' consists of me, DH and two boys aged 10 and 13.

Anyone have fun suggestions of things to do?

So far we've booked Ancaster Go Karting and the Lincoln Aqua Park. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Belton House - National Trust is lovely huge outdoor play area zip wires etc

Lincoln - castle & cathedral

Grantham is a mainline train station so lots of places to visit - London takes about an hour from there

Do you have a car?, if so get out to the beach for a day!

We're coming from London so definitely won't need to head back on train but I'll look into the others

Lincoln itself is so lovely! Great shopping, independent shops up Steep Hill and main names on the other side of town. The Cathedral is worth a visit and the castle is just across from it! Cleethorpes was much better than I expected for a seaside day. (Don’t go to Skegness!) Louth is a nice little place as well. Have a great time.

Skegness would be the closest, I can see someone's already dismissed it!! It's a bit rough round the edges but it's got the good old combo of beach, funfair, arcades and ice cream! Enough to keep to kids busy for the day.

Mablethorpe is a bit tacky nowadays but I always liked the beach there

Tattershall castle was great

Newark is quite nearby - the river is nice and the ruined castle mildly interesting!

Skegness, or Skeggy to us East Midlanders, in an experience which everyone should have once in their lives.

The Yorkshire wildlife park is just over the border, as is Clumber Park which had LOTS of activities for children available last time I was there!

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight tour at RAF Coningsby. Then park up for a bit and watch Typhoons taking off. Your boys might find that a bit interesting.

One of my favourite beaches is Mogg’s Eye on the Lincolnshire Coast - but - the reason I like it is because there is nothing there apart from a car park and a toilet block.

Definitely go to YWP.

Coningsby and Tattershall Castle are very near Woodhall Spa. It’s a charming place that has a lovely outdoor swimming pool and also the Kinema in the Woods - a quirky old fashioned cinema.

If you do happen to make it to Skegness and the children like animals, you can visit the seal sanctuary. There are lots of other animal based attractions in Lincolnshire, The Ark is near Boston, there’s another animal,park near Horncastle and another between Boston and Skegness, you have a good choice!

Burleigh house, Garden of surprises is worth a look around, then lunch and shopping in Stamford.

Rutland water -kayaking /other water sports or cycle hire-it’s nice to cycle around.

Wild Pines Park is a bit of a hidden gem. The high ropes courses are better than Go Ape IMHO and there's also archery, mini golf, table tennis ...

The Lincolnshire coast is all lovely, sandy beaches. Mablethorpe is tacky (not always a bad thing 🤣) but if you walk a few minutes along the beach away from the main front it soon gets quiet.

Skegness is an experience all right but not a good one, I'm here now it's soo busy and it stinks 😅 we have been to sutton on sea today its lovely the beach is beautiful and they have a new cafe that overlooks the sea, I didn't get to it in time to see what it was like but it looked nice. You have the beach huts at sandilands about 20 mins walk from that point but apart from that and a few shops there's nothing there really it's just so peaceful and clean compared to skeg.

Yes I used to go as a child, went recently but still liked it, shops so weird and tacky but beach is lovely
