York hotel and parking recommendations please

Want to take my mum to York for a weekend. I’ve heard parking is an expensive nightmare! Any central hotel recommendations with parking, or if hotel has no parking, any parking recommendations?
thank you!

Have a look at secret escapes. They have some good York deals.
some will have parking.
council car parks are very expensive. However, you can use ‘just park’ and they have some reasonable prices.

VividDeer · 08/03/2026 08:28

I stayed in a brilliant self catering apartment. Was cheap, but not a weekend. It gave a discount on parking but I was still a little horrified by price - was putting through work expenses and worried my boss would complain

NewYearNewMee · 08/03/2026 08:36

The Milner is right by the station - so you could park in the station (it’s not the cheapest!) but it’s a huge easy to navigate car park, then you’re right next to your hotel. We enjoyed staying there! The Grand was also a really lovely hotel, about 5 minutes from the station too so you could still park there and walk (although we did valet parking which was I think £40 ish a night?).

We stayed in the Moxy, the Q parking was a short walk away as was the centre of the city.

Middletons has parking on-site and Malmaison has a few spaces in their underground car park but you need to pre-book them.

York can be a nightmare with a car we stay at The Mercure Fairfield Manor on the A19 just outside york loads of free parking. The park and ride is just up the road either a short walk or 2 min drive buses run very frequently into York. There is also a bus stop just outside the Hotel where there is a service into York.
The hotel usually has some pretty good deals if you are on a budget

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 08/03/2026 09:02

We stayed in the Grand and used Valet parking, most people seemed to arrive by train.

Nice rooms at the very central The Judge's Lodging. All parking is exorbitant. I paid £16 for 4 hours last week when we wanted to be in and out faster than the Park n Ride.
Bizarrely, the newest Premier Inn, which is also an incredibly short walk to the Shambles does offer parking for a more reasonable fee.

MamaBobo · 10/03/2026 16:27

The Radisson Hotel is reasonably central and it has a 50 space car park underneath. Rooms are clean and comfortable although it’s not a pretty building. Car parking is £20 per night at the moment.

EnchantedDaydream · 10/03/2026 16:30

We stayed a couple of miles out of town at the Premier Inn North, free parking on site and a quick bus journey into town.

chillyputsomesockson · 10/03/2026 20:17

Thanks everyone. Can you leave cars overnight at the park and ride at MacArthur Glen outlet?

We stayed at Layerthorpe Premier Inn. It was about a 5-10 minute walk from the centre.

tutugogo · 10/03/2026 20:38

We stayed at the Hilton, parking was about £18 for cars, though free on the motorbike

NewYearNewMee · 10/03/2026 20:45

@chillyputsomesocksonI'm pretty sure there’s signs (parking control) saying you can’t, they do have security patrols there too from memory.

Miranda65 · 10/03/2026 20:46

Hotel du Vin has parking, & short walk into town.

I agree. It’s a nice little hotel in a central location with lots of parking.

ilovebrie8 · 10/03/2026 20:48

Following I love York.

Purpleavocado · 10/03/2026 20:49

I stayed in Layerthorp Premier Inn as well, we managed to park in the car park but it wasn't huge, and was about £16. The location was good, just a short walk along the walls to town.

Imfat · 10/03/2026 20:52

As a treat for a special occasion we stayed at the Dean Court. Valet parking and right by York minster.

Pusspot · 10/03/2026 20:57

The Layerthorpe Travel Lodge has free parking. I’ve stayed there twice and I think it’s good for that type of hotel. The staff let me leave my car in the car park after check out, up until 5pm. It’s about a 10-15 walk into the city centre.

Mumofteenandtween · 10/03/2026 20:59

The Premier Inn York North on the Shipton Road has parking. It is about a 1.5 mile easy walk into the centre or you can get the no 2 bus in that goes really regularly. The Dormouse pub next door does a decent Sunday lunch too.

itsneverdullinull · 10/03/2026 21:02

The travelodge on the city centre has free parking for guests. And it’s one of the nicest travelodges I’ve ever stayed in.

Pistachiocake · 10/03/2026 21:03

Novotel or Hilton have parking, or did last time I went.

No, it’s not permitted

WooYa · 10/03/2026 21:30

I've stayed at Middletons, lovely hotel and just short walk into the centre and free parking with your stay
