Nice London hotel recommend for New Year’s week

We are coming to London for a week from 27/12 to 3/1/2026 and trying to find a nice central hotel without breaking the bank. We are a family of 5, kids ages are 15, 12 and 8 years old and they have never been to London before so everyone is really looking forward to it and wanted to make it a bit special for them. I have been looking for hotels, would like it to be a bit central or at least close to a tube station without having to change too many times to get to the city centre. Most hotels will cost over £4000-5000 for the 7 days which is excessive for us! We would need to book 2 separate rooms so everything becomes really expensive. Can you recommend any nice hotels for around £200 per room (apart from Premier Inn or Travelodge that are wonderful but basic) or any ways of finding deals? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. The Leonardo group often is good value. I’d recommend the St Paul’s and city one..

The Copthorne Tara in Kensington is very well located, tube is at the top of the road, and Kensington high street has loads of shops/ food options. But tired but a decent hotel especially for its location

You won’t get anything anywhere you want to stay for that price between Christmas and New Year. I would suggest Premier Inn, City Aldgate is my go to as it’s not too noisy and very close to tube, walkable to the city, Spitalfields etc.

I’ve recently used Z hotels instead of premier inn as they’re well located and generally better value. They have some nice features like a bunk room and wine and cheese. Worth looking at their website.

No specific recommendations but look at Booking.com on your phone. There are 'mobile only' deals on there they you won't get on a laptop.

It would have been easier for Mary and Joseph than for you to find a London hotel over new year for a family of 5 for £200 a night. I felt daft even writing that figure down it’s so far fetched OP

Air b and b may be your best bet, as it with it being £400 a night that money goes further in a property which can fit you all in!

Yeah unfortunately £200 a room is premier inn/travelogdge budget.

I would echo previous posters and look for an apartment, I think you’ll get more for your money this way.

We often did a break in alondon between Xmas and new year. But we went on 27th and came home by 30th.
The challenge is that every hotel in Central London on New year will charge a fortune. Premier inn nearly doubles.
Can you do a shorter break? Sunday 28th to Wed 31st will be best value.

Airbnb is your best option. Lots of properties within your budget.

Motel One is coming in at £2400 (about £170 / night per room) - you have to contact them re children though so price may be slightly different. I haven’t stayed there for a while but it’s a nice hotel with a boutique-y feel. Slightly out of central London but near Aldgate on the circle line which someone else has also suggested as a good location- near Tower Hill if you want the tourist attractions too.

Have you tried looking looking at apart hotels & short term rental flats? My friends flats is a platform which allows people to book long term empty flats/houses while the owners are away. This might be a cheaper option than a hotel especially during the Christmas holidays.

I would stay in Tower Hill so you’re near Tower Hill tube station and the Tower of London, St Katharines docks and tower bridge, etc. it’s cheaper and I think much nicer than staying in west London if you’re on a budget.

@HugeDeal i’d also point out that central London is no fun on NYE these days…it’s completely closed with cordons to non-ticket holders for the fireworks unless you are staying in a hotel in the Centre (the hotel will give you wristbands so you can at least get back to base or move freely within the zone) so bear that in mind. Personally, I’d make a plan to establish what it is you want to do whilst you are in London and then work out how many days you need and possibly visit somewhere else in the UK for the last couple of days?

I don’t know why you’re resisting Premier Inn. I put your dates in and you can get two rooms in one of the hotels on the South Bank for just over £2K. The South Bank is gorgeous - an easy walk into the West End and all the sights over one of the bridges, or take the Thames Clipper boat, and Premier Inn rooms provide the basics of bed and bathroom. What else do you need? You’ll be sight-seeing and out and about most of the time.

You need to book really soon though, wherever you decided to go - most of the central Premier Inns are not appearing on the search which means they’re already booked for New Year.

The lalit by tower bridge is out of budget but you get a room for not much over £250 which I think is pretty good given the dates. It’s a great location and a nice hotel.

I just looked at maximum capacity for all rooms is two adults and one child

and even that, cheapest is £388 a night

The Lalit (the hotel I just suggested) comes in at 3.6k for 2 rooms. If it’s 2k for the premier inn on the Southbank I’d definitely go for the premier inn!

I searched for 2 rooms for the dates and it came back at 3.6k for the week on booking.com

So way above the OP’s budget
