Nice London hotel recommend for New Year’s week

We are coming to London for a week from 27/12 to 3/1/2026 and trying to find a nice central hotel without breaking the bank. We are a family of 5, kids ages are 15, 12 and 8 years old and they have never been to London before so everyone is really looking forward to it and wanted to make it a bit special for them. I have been looking for hotels, would like it to be a bit central or at least close to a tube station without having to change too many times to get to the city centre. Most hotels will cost over £4000-5000 for the 7 days which is excessive for us! We would need to book 2 separate rooms so everything becomes really expensive. Can you recommend any nice hotels for around £200 per room (apart from Premier Inn or Travelodge that are wonderful but basic) or any ways of finding deals? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Definitely reconsider the Premier Inns. Especially if you can get near the Southbank, Tower Bridge or Borough Market. 2 family rooms with the breakfast deal, job done. My teen dc have stayed in some lovely hotels/resorts in various places. But they bloody love a Premier Inn!

So way above the OP’s budget

which is precisely my point

Yeah, I said that too!

I would look at something like the Premier Inn or Travelodge in Wimbledon.

Both are brand new (Premier Inn maybe 5 years old) but ideally located near the station and restaurants.

You would be in Waterloo in 20 minutes and South Kensington area for museums in 20 minutes as well.

I would Air bnb - you will save a fortune by having breakfasts and other meals you choose there.

My Ozzie family book a two bedroom apartment with Native Places (www.nativeplaces.com) when visiting us in London. They stay in Native Bankside which they say is nice but there are others

I think there’s some decent apartments in Holborn- near the station, opposite the Waitrose. I’ve had family stay at them and they are ideal. I can’t remember the name of them though. Sorry!

Sorry I haven't RTFT but have a look at Vox on West End Lane. Not exactly central but right near tube, overground and Thameslink stations. I travel to London for work a lot and need to be in central area for meetings. I always stay there.

It would have been easier for Mary and Joseph than for you to find a London hotel over new year for a family of 5 for £200 a night. I felt daft even writing that figure down it’s so far fetched OP

And you wouldn’t get that price at premier inn Or travel lodge in London over new year. And I doubt even availability anyway!

Edited

Thanks everyone for your replies. Much appreciated. Just to clarify, of course I wouldn’t expect to find anything for £200 for a family of 5. What I wrote was that our budget is approximately £200 per room and as we are a family of 5, we would need 2 rooms so £400-£500 per night is what I would consider reasonable for a decent hotel in most places, but of course I understand what everyone is saying and I will readjust my search to see if I can find a good value for money place to stay.

Op have you actually checked prices for central London premier inn and Travelodge over the new year?

I think you might be in for a shock

what spending money are you setting aside for one week, breakfast, lunch and dinner for 5 people?

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 18/09/2025 14:02

Honestly, depending on how far you’re travelling from, I would save the money and come to London when the children have an inset day (eg do Thurs after school- Sunday) and do a few less nights but over an extended weekend when London is really quiet, Jan or Feb. You could get a much nicer hotel for your budget and it wouldn’t be packed everywhere

This
with bells on
I’m guessing you’re a Londoner too?

Op, take it from seasoned Londoners, save this for another time and get LOADS more bang for your buck

Haha lived in London and now back to the suburbs in the South East, but close by/ commuter territory!

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 18/09/2025 14:09

And actually thinking about it, booking.com had a Black Friday deal last year I think when most hotel stays were discounted 25% for Jan / Feb

Thanks again. The reason we are traveling to London over the holidays is because the kids have school during other times, that some of you very sensibly suggested. I managed to find some decent choices in the area of £500 per night however I just read that the windows of those hotel rooms don’t open! Including the rooms at the Premier Inns which I was thinking of booking after your suggestions. I am not sure how the hotel room will feel without some ventilation with fresh air each day. Any further recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

Travelling over holidays with children to London? Brill

Travelling over New year to London on a tight budget (your head will spin when it comes to spending money for a week!!! Especially as you’ll have to buy every meal out)? Not wise. Not wise. At. All.

Productiveam · 14/10/2025 13:59

“Nice London hotel” for £200 a room a night over new year?

You won’t find a NOT “Nice London hotel” for that budget Op
