Must visit places in the UK

We have visited lots of places in the UK over the years, but want to compile a list of places we haven't been to to make sure we do more. It could be for a day trip, a night, weekend, or longer if there there's an area we could explore.

I've already done lots of Google research, but I'd appreciate MN input as I can imagine there are places that others have visited and enjoyed that may not come up in various searches.

What we like (destination doesn't have to combine all of these, just at least one)
Beautiful scenery
Interesting towns/cities/sights
Walking opportunities (4-6 miles rather than full day hikes).

Evenings we like to have access to pubs/restaurants for food and drink. Don't need a club scene but happy with a lively town/city but equally happy with quiet villages as long we can eat!

Our camping days are over, so would need accommodation

2 adults only, no children.

Thank you

Stirling: a couple of days in the city itself (castle, amazing views, good places to eat) then out to Callander for some walks in the Trossachs (lots of walks along the sides of lochs if you prefer not to trudge up mountains).

Hawes is fab, we stay at Bainbridge Ings as the lodges are lovely and have hot tubs. White Hart Inn is absolutely fab for food, and there's lovely shops to have a mooch around. Walks within a short drive are Aysgarth Falls, Ribblehead viaduct, Ingleton waterfall trail and Hardraw Force. White Scar cave is fab too. Kirkby Lonsdale is about 40 mins drive and is a lovely village.

North Norfolk: Brancaster, Wells-next-the-Sea, Castle Rising, Norfolk Lavender, Holkham Hall, Sandringham, Blakeney Point nature reserve, seal-watching boat trips, Princess Theatre at Hunstanton. There's all sorts to do, and loads of nice walks.

Dorset, especially around West Bay Area. The New Forest, Lyndhurst and down to the coast at Lymington.

Alfriston in East Sussex, so gorgeous!

Gettingcolder · 23/03/2024 19:36

Also East Sussex I would suggest walking from Eastbourne to Beachy Head and on to Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven to Seaford Head. The scenery is amazing but don't try and walk the whole way in one day, do it in sections.

Shropshire Hills - Ludlow, Stokesay Castle, Bishops Castle, Montgomery (Wales), Chirch Stretton, Shrewsbury - all worth a visit.

Great walking - Long Mynd, Stiperstones, Offa's Dyke, Shropshire Way, Jack Mytton Way, Heart of Wales Line walk. All have day walking opportunities.

Agree with this . Nefyn beach on the north coast of the peninsular has a lovely coastal walk with spectacular views.

Loving this thread-DH and I just said lets do some UK weekends
with-dare I say- our small dog (who does not jump up on people) so ideal if anyone has any dog friendly suggestions. We love Northumbria/Bamburgh etc.

I keep seeing things about Malton. Any intel on that?

have done weekends most recently in Rye and Chester.

Love this thread!

We've had fab breaks away in Northumberland (Seahouses), Cornwall (Port Isaac), Norfolk (Hunstanton) and Wales (Porthmadog) - loads of amazing places around all of these too.

Great city breaks include London, Edinburgh, Chester, Manchester and Sheffield.
