Must visit places in the UK

We have visited lots of places in the UK over the years, but want to compile a list of places we haven't been to to make sure we do more. It could be for a day trip, a night, weekend, or longer if there there's an area we could explore.

I've already done lots of Google research, but I'd appreciate MN input as I can imagine there are places that others have visited and enjoyed that may not come up in various searches.

What we like (destination doesn't have to combine all of these, just at least one)
Beautiful scenery
Interesting towns/cities/sights
Walking opportunities (4-6 miles rather than full day hikes).

Evenings we like to have access to pubs/restaurants for food and drink. Don't need a club scene but happy with a lively town/city but equally happy with quiet villages as long we can eat!

Our camping days are over, so would need accommodation

2 adults only, no children.

Thank you

Loads to see in Northern Ireland.

Hi, we live and have to say love beautiful broadstairs in Kent, which has 7 local beaches and bays. Lots of coastal and country walks plus some amazing local restaurants and bars.

Its also only an hour on the train from London if you want to do a city day trip!

Family friendly accommodation

Definitely Fowey for me, too. Gorgeous town and views. Lots of places to eat and drink, and walks with amazing views (Hall Walk in particular).

The New Forest (biased as I live here)
Isle of Arran (in laws live in Lochranza)
Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door in Dorset

Forgot to add Corfe in Dorset, go via Poole and travel over on the chainlink ferry to beautiful Studland then on up to Corfe. The village and old castle are wonderful.

Driving the north coast road in Northern Ireland - often makes the list of the best road trips in the world - stunning.

The beaches along the North Coast are wonderful too. Particularly Benone, Ballycastle, White Sands, Ballintoy harbour and then you have Portrush and Port Stewart for places to eat and nice b&bs.

You could walk in the Mourne Mountains, and eat / stay in Newcastle or climb Cave Hill above Belfast.

There's also Fermanagh - with lots of lakes and walks to do (I've not yet been but hear it's wonderful!).

I don't live there, just lucky enough to get to visit regularly.

It's a shame more people from England don't make it over there as it's such a great destination. (can't vouch for the weather though!)

Some of our favourite places:

Lake District (especially like Bowness/Windermere, or Keswick).

Aberystwyth

Llandudno

Anywhere on the Isle of Wight, but Shanklin is especially nice.

Stratford Upon Avon

Windsor/Eton.

Isle of Arran - often described as Scotland in miniature, with good reason

Eden Valley in Cumbria - great walks and scenery, villages and small towns, castles, the Settle to Carlisle railway, and none of the crowds of the Lake District

My favourite places. St Ives. The Lizard. Port Issac.Mousehole. Newquay although busy a beautiful coast. I also love Newquay ,Wales. Borth ( miles of beach for a dog walk) and the nature reserve at the end. Anglesey. I love crossing the Menai Bridge. I like Beaumaris and Red wharf bay especially. Oh and Penmon point.
Borth Y guest and the coastal walk to Black rock sands. Portmeirion.
So many places I still haven’t visited though like Scotland , the Lake District and Northumberland.

East Neuk of Fife is lovely as is St Andrews and lots of places close by.

Sky.

Lots of remote places around Scotlands Coast.

So is Northumberland lots of big beaches, big skies and castles.

Beverley is a pretty little town. Not too far away Helmsley, RobinHoods Bay, Whitby and Flamborough Head.

Edinburgh is lovely.

I also have Wales on our list the Gower
peninsula and Port Meirion.

Oxford, Cambridge and Durham are all worth a visit.

The lake district especially the quieter Western Lakes.

So many amazing places to visit but a few spring to mind: Carmarthenshire is very under rated. Can especially recommend Pembrey country park with an amazing beach lined by pine forest.
Mid Wales is fab too - Hay on Wye, Machynlleth, Builth Wells etc.
The Peak district is lovely
Shropshire- lovely towns and never far from beautiful countryside
Cheltenham and The Cotswolds
West Highlands

Eyam in Derbyshire. Pretty little village with a a sad but fascinating history. Make a weekend of it and go to Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock Bath maybe. Lovely walks around all of them.
