Is the London Eye worth it??

Thinking of maybe booking it but for 5 folk it's £157 for half an hour?! Does anyone recommend it and are there any discounts or good alternatives to see the view? Thanks!

It’s better value for money than the Shard, but I’d probably do the Sky Garden instead - it’s free, but you have to book ahead. Not as much fun as the London Eye, though.

Sometimes there are deals for the London Eye if you do combo tickets

Jessforless · 07/01/2024 15:16

We used to have a Merlin pass so went on it quite a few times, I think it’s worth it as something to say you’ve done, great views and just being on the southbank etc is a nice day out.

I’d try and aim for a clear day if you can.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 07/01/2024 15:21

We are going to London for 4 days in Feb (not likely to be back any time soon as we are far away) so won't have much choice re weather. Is it better to wait nearer the time and book? Is it likely there would still be availability last minute?

I thought the shard was free to just go up?

I second the sky garden. Tickets are released for the week on a Monday, 3 weeks in advance. It’s free and great views

BassoContinuo · 07/01/2024 15:23

The Shard is definitely not free to just go up - website shows the current price is from £28.50pp

StillWantingADog · 07/01/2024 15:24

We are going same time as you and I’m hoping to get free tickets for the sky garden because it seems a rip off. When it first opened it was £10!
the shard is almost as expensive. However there is a building next door to it which is supposedly free and taller.

PaminaMozart · 07/01/2024 15:26

There's also the Monument and the top of St. Paul's for great views.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 07/01/2024 15:26

It's definitely worth it if you have a clear day and kids (age 8+ ish). For adults, not so much.

Higher even than The Shard or Sky Garden and it’s free!
There are some dates late February.

Horizon 22

Horizon 22 is London's highest free viewing platform with 300-degrees views of London and it's most icon landmarks.

I don't think it is worth it, the wheel I mean.

The sky garden is a nicer experience all round. It's more relaxed and it's a better environment.

BlackberrySky · 07/01/2024 15:34

Horizon 22 mentioned upthread has fantastic views. I appreciate that the London Eye is more iconic, especially if you don't visit London much, but if you're on a budget, I would save it for something else.

BlackberrySky · 07/01/2024 15:38

Here is the view from Horizon 22 (taken by me, so in no way professional!)

I’ve been on the Eye once, didn’t leave lasting memories.

idontlikealdi · 07/01/2024 15:49

Horizon 22 or sky garden - horizon is technically higher than the shard because it on higher land. My company pmd it so I've been up there a lot.

Imamastermind · 07/01/2024 15:50

Do you have tesco clubcard? You can use the vouchers on London Eye. We did it and it was great fun and practically free.

RaininSummer · 07/01/2024 15:54

I have been on the Eye and don't think it's worth more than paying 25 pound a head for to be honest.

demonheed · 07/01/2024 16:01

I wouldn't say it was worth that price but a Merlin pass is!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 07/01/2024 16:21

Oh the Horizon thing looks great but sadly sold out when we are there!

OP posts:
Ilikeyoursleeves · 07/01/2024 16:23

I have a Tesco clubcard but barely any points as we rarely shop there now.

Any other must sees for London while I'm on this thread? Two adults and 3 early to mid teens

OP posts:
Candleabra · 07/01/2024 16:23

Not at that price, no.

Trumpton · 07/01/2024 16:52

Climb the monument building! £6 adult less for children

I hated London eye…
sky garden or go up the shard and have cocktails or a meal

badlydrawntoy · 07/01/2024 18:07

I really loved it but we used the deal you get when you travel by train. I'd never pay full price, Look on

Lift 109 at Battersea's Power Station was brilliant fun, great views and good value - definitely worth a look.
