Christmas in London

Hi all, my partner and my 11 month old by then are looking to goto London for 5 days over Christmas 22nd-27th can any one recommend any restaurants to go to for Christmas dinner? Nothing ridiculously expensive like the Ritz I've already had a look and it's £600 PP ! Plus I'd feel really uncomfortable some where like that. There are so many options on line. The IVY would be good but unsure if you can take children ? Any recommendations would be great thanksSmile

And a budget? You’ll find most Christmas Day meals pretty expensive and availability may be a challenge. It might be better to plan a treat meal for either the 24th or 26th and find somewhere non-Christmassy for Christmas Day.

Any budget really maybe £100 PP ? I don't know what the London prices are like on Xmas day so not sure what to expect. Yeah might be a bit late but was going ti try and book now if any where has availability. Yes we are planning to goto dish room for Xmas eve breakfast and Camden market.

If you’re happy with non-traditional, that will help! And are happy to walk some distance or pay for a (fairly expensive) taxi? (Or have you got your car?) There’s no public transport on Christmas Day which does make it a bit trickier.

BIWI · 21/10/2023 16:05

What about the hotel you're staying in? (Assuming you are in a hotel). Most of those will be offering a Christmas lunch, I would have thought.

Preferably some where we could walk to or get a taxi no we're parking at our friends outside of London. Happy with any food doesn't have to be Xmas dinner !

Where will you be staying? Rough area as that will make a difference, you won’t want a long journey either end of the meal.

You’re a 20 ish minute walk to Tayyabs who are open on Christmas Day. Excellent food, no bookings (usually a queue), bring your own booze - a good option I’d have thought.

viques · 21/10/2023 16:12

Smiths has a branch near Tower Bridge, but don’t know if they are open on Christmas Day. They specialise in fish which probably isn’t the best bet over a holiday period, but they do other food too .

For other meals if you walk round to the other side of the Tower of London from Tower Bridge there is a reasonable selection of chain type restaurants, like Wagamama.

Paltrypam · 21/10/2023 16:12

London. On a budget. Christmas Day meal.

No. Chance for £100pp

Paltrypam · 21/10/2023 16:13

Oh in that case - loads of options!!!

Paltrypam · 21/10/2023 16:14

Fact you had found out Ritz cost made me think you wanted super Christmassy

What’s your favourite country cuisine?

Paltrypam · 21/10/2023 16:17

You are in London on Christmas Day

please do not go to Wagamama’s

Ddcg12 · 21/10/2023 16:18

I don't really have a budget as such I don't know what the prices are like on Xmas £100 was just a guess really. I like all al cuisine but Thai is probably my favourite.

I googled restaurants in London at Xmas and the ritz was the first one that came up I was just being nosey really !

I mentioned Wagamamas but I wasn’t suggesting they go on Christmas Day. Just giving an example of a chain restaurant for other days within easy reach of Tower Bridge.

Ddcg12 · 21/10/2023 16:20

Had a look at the menu it looks great would eat everything on there !

Read reviews from last Christmas Day diners I would

Gloriously · 22/10/2023 18:31

We have eaten at The Duck and Waffle on Xmas Day - it was magnificent - had cocktails at Sushi Samba on the 44th floor (just below) with outside fire pit watching the sunset over the city - it’s not far from Tower Bridge.

Also quite a few pubs (google Fullers) are open if you want a more homely traditional feel with open fires etc. We at a The Morpeth Arms on the river in Pimlico last year - it was about £65 head for 5 course and was stunning food and service. We are off to another one in Belgravia this year.

Covent Garden is beautiful on Xmas Day - there are restaurants open and it’s very atmospheric amazing light trail along the alley ways and a snow flurry on the hour.

We hire bikes on Xmas day as have traffic free streets.

Trafalgar Sq / Regent St gets mobbed in the evening on Xmas day - there are a few chain restaurants open.....

Raisinganiguana · 22/10/2023 18:35

Ivy is fine for kids. They’re swarming with them! Otherwise try Brasserie Zedel, Dean St Townhouse or that kind of brasserie thing. Not been for Xmas lunch though!
