I walk and camp on my own occasionally. It’s brilliant.

NotFastButFurious · 20/09/2023 19:46

A few times, it’s great! Usually book a self catering place, sleep a lot, exercise a lot, only cook basic meals and drink a fair bit of wine! Literally anything to escape reality!
afraid I hate spas so can’t help there……

NashvilleQueen · 20/09/2023 19:47

Yes. A week in a quiet Spanish inland town. It was mostly lovely although it was quite cold. On the last night I met a British couple (it was all Spanish until then) and I didn't stop talking to them!

I spent 4 nights in a quiet Mallorca town earlier this year. It was bliss. I are out a couple of nights, got take away sushi for the other nights I couldn’t be arsed to go anywhere. Took a couple of books and loads of podcasts lined up. It was bliss. Do it Op.

I've just booked a 10 night holiday abroad first time alone ! Can't wait !

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/09/2023 19:55

I'm away on my own at the moment, staying in a cottage in the old town in Poole. It's lovely and quiet but a 2 min walk to the Quay. Hotel du Vin is nearby and it looks very nice!

Diplidocus4 · 20/09/2023 19:57

Yes and love it !
There's a few posts about spa hotels so worth looking at but remember single person supplement Hmm

Plenty of lodge type places - Centre Parcs spa is fabulous ...

Sounds perfect 🤩

I did my first solo holiday this summer for 4 days as I was nervous I'd hate it. But it was amazing - wish I'd done much longer and will be next year. I kept it simple, bought lovely food, slept loads and just stopped my mind racing. I shouldn't have spent so long worrying about it all.

cissyandbessy · 20/09/2023 20:13

I went here and it was lovely www.bedfordlodgehotel.co.uk/spapages/

Yes, I love going away in my own, I’ve been abroad for a week a couple of times, it was so relaxing, if I wanted to go to the beach , I went to the beach, if I wanted to go shopping or to the pool, I did, I did not have someone moaning about how they didn’t want to do that. Most holidays with family are always doing what they want..us women always compromise. Go and enjoy!

I would love to do this. Where do you go? Do you get nervous on your own?

PermanentTemporary · 20/09/2023 21:28

Budget? Travel distance?

I once had someone pay for me to stay at the Gainsborough in Bath and it was absolutely incredible. I was lucky to get a night in a Travelodge at the time so it absolutely blew my mind. I prefer a city to mooch about in rather than rural isolation though

StoatofDisarray · 20/09/2023 21:32

Yes: Somerset, Berlin, Miami (a free holiday in a spa hotel). It's great, you should try it!

Rocknrollstar · 20/09/2023 21:55

Yes. I spent one half term in a lovely hotel in Lyme Regis that had a small pool in the basement. Great break. Came back refreshed.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/09/2023 22:04

Yes during covid, Cornwall, Whitby and Dorset.

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/09/2023 22:08

For 2-3 days don't travel too far, just far enough to be 'away'. Take some books, turn all SM off, phone on silent and plan on treatment-sleep-dinner-sleep-breakfast-treatment-sleep/repeat.

You'll feel great!

BigFatLiar · 20/09/2023 22:11

There used to be lots of adverts for weekend breaks in the local papers. When I was getting a bit rundown OH would give me the paper and tell me to have a break. I had a number of weekends away, Prague, Berlin, Venice etc. Sometimes it's been a spa break in a resort here. No issues with going on your own, just relax and enjoy.

LaViajera · 20/09/2023 22:14

Loads, all over the world. Have kindle, will travel. Who need company. You go where you want, when you want. You've posted in UK Travel, happy to go overseas or not?

irregularegular · 20/09/2023 22:15

Yes, but only busy holidays, seeing and doing lots of different things. I had a short break in Stockholm by myself in 2020 and also a week travelling alone in Malaysia a few years ago (met my family for the rest of the holiday). I recently realised I really want to do something by myself again, so am making plans to add an extension to a mother-daughter trip to NY. Spending a few days doing nothing by myself doesn't particularly appeal, but I can totally understand why some people would.

Whereabouts in the country are you thinking of going?

surlycurly · 20/09/2023 22:18

I go away at least once a year alone. Usually for a week, sometimes two. I can't wait!

theteddypileisgrowing · 20/09/2023 22:21

I went to Switzerland, the isle of sky, Hong Kong and China alone.

Loved it.

Have kids now though

SleepingStandingUp · 20/09/2023 22:24

I've done overnights in the UK alone and spa days, would Def mix them onto a short break if I had time and money. Go somewhere that has good eat in options and good local options.

Did a week on Spain alone and a coach trip to Netherlands alone, neither were restorative physically

Tailfeather · 20/09/2023 22:25

Sounds like heaven! I've escaped for a night here and there. Would love 2-3 nights!!

QueenBitch666 · 21/09/2023 00:21

Yes. 6 months in India on my own. Now regular yearly solitary holiday on a quiet Spanish island. Bliss

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 21/09/2023 00:33

I do four or five nights a couple of times a year. Absolutely love it.
