Not a spa person but have had numerous solo holidays, from Iceland to cruises round the Med.

Oddly my favourite memory is of a caravan, perched high on a hill overlooking a bay. Sitting on the verandah, bottle of champagne, watching the sun set and the boats bobbing is my calm place along with a deserted beach on Jersey with just me, the waves lapping and the occasional seagull squawk. Both blissful experiences.

Do it, OP!

Yes.

I go to a little town in Mallorca that's not far from Palma but not close to the proper touristy bits. It's on the beach and I usually book half-board in one of the several hotels in the area. One of the has a small spa that I've used in the past but a couple of the others have nicer food & outdoor areas. I take my tablet with kindle app and music. During the day I walk, swim or sometimes hire a bicycle, and in the evenings I sit on the hotel terrace or at one of the beach cafes and read. It's bliss, I just have a couple of days of peace and tranquility and it re-sets my mental batteries.

I’ve gone walking for a few days by myself in the UK most years for the last 8 years.
I’m just back from Slovenia and I’ve booked a group swimming holiday in Mallorca for next year.
DH and I tend to go away alone to follow our own interests (we have a 9yo). It’s great.

Iliketulips · 21/09/2023 11:01

I've been to Jersey and Austria on my own. Enjoyed both and they were peaceful. Didn't stay in a spa hotel though.

If you're looking for a spa hotel in the UK, I'd suggest an independent one as I think you'd be able to relax a bit more. We stayed in a spa hotel recently owned by a chain, it was very commercialised, suit in restaurant for men (nothing said about this on their website) and restaurant and bar food was expensive.

henrysugar12 · 21/09/2023 11:49

I do every year! It's not quite a holiday as I'm teaching English, but it's loads of fun and quite a cheap break as you only pay for flights and a couple of nights hotel. The bed and board are covered, so you just buy your own drinks (although usually people buy them for you!). It's a great way to meet people from all over the world and I've made some fantastic friends from doing it.

I do it a lot. Done cottages in Wales and Northumberland, a road trip down B&Bs on the west coast of Ireland, road trip down the west coast of the US, a cruise in Norway.

Longingforthesummer · 21/09/2023 21:53

If a yoga holiday - you can do as much it as little as you want - on a lovely green island floats your boat then I highly recommend healthy options. I've been on my own a few times and it's perfect. There's always others on their own to go out for dinner with and you can structure your days with activities if you want to. They're seating is nearly finished though!

Longingforthesummer · 21/09/2023 22:13

Not sure that is my thing but thank you.

Audax in Menorca - adults only, spa, absolutely brilliant.

I did 3 nights there alone in May for a break from parenting!

honeyfox · 21/09/2023 22:18

Went to Lisbon for 4 nights on my own when I was 29, really enjoyed it ☺️

Longingforthesummer · 21/09/2023 22:36

Yes - not so much a holiday but 1 - 2 nights away at a local spa hotel to recharge batteries away from everyone.
Maybe twice a year.
I always tell the family it's work related so they don't get upset but it's not. I go straight from work, have a coffee, watch anything I like on TV, swim and use the spa, have a few glasses of wine and repeat next day. I may also have a massage.
I save up for this and look forward to it.

Longingforthesummer · 23/09/2023 09:02

@Gingerwarthog this!!!!!
Sounds perfect....where have you been?

I literally (9 hours ago) arrived home from 5 nights in Mallorca.
I booked myself a 4 star spa hotel on the beach, took 3 books, and asked a stay at mine with the dogs.
I made sure the hotel was close to the airport, one bus ride, one stop. No way of getting lost.
I ate breakfast in the hotel, usually skipped lunch but made sure I had an ice cream each day, and dinner was whatever I wanted, when I wanted. No one was bothered by a long woman dining despite what I had been told to expect.
My first night I had a ONS with a German man and it was fantastic, genuinely the best sex with a stranger I've ever had. And romance may be blooming as we haven't stopped texting since.

If you want a break, go for your break. This is your life, live it how you intend it.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/09/2023 09:46

Often, because if I didn't I wouldn't go anywhere. Had a lovely five days in Devon earlier in the year - someone else to do the cleaning and cooking was a lovely change. Off to Australia next year.

Getdowngetdown · 23/09/2023 09:54

Oh yes do it! I had a sneaky week away in august and rented a 3 bed cottage by myself in the Yorkshire dales. My sis came to visit for a couple of nights and my friend and her dog came for one night. It was wonderfully wonderful and I will be doing it every year henceforth! Also had a couple of nights alone at a posh spa which was lovely, but much preferred the self catering Option

It's in Cornwall. Is that a location that works for you?

There's a couple of companies in Spain and one in Italy. You don't need to speak anything other than English!

Speak Italy - never done this but heard from friends who have it's not as fun as the Spanish programs

Pueblo Ingles (they also do a program in Germany) have volunteered a few times with them, really good company.

Vaughantown again in Spain and they have lots of good venues.
