Nice Hotel recommendations in the North please

Hotel recommendations for couple in North of England (Yorkshire, Northumberland, Derbyshire, Lancashire and Scotland) ideally gluten free for a relaxing couple of days.

Want somewhere nice with good costumer service, where we can relax and feel comfortable. Doesn’t need to be spa hotel, Michelin star rated or overly posh and overly expensive.

Anyone has tried posting on the GF board?

We stayed at Walwick Hall and it was lovely. No idea about the gluten free though.

BeeBB · 05/03/2023 11:24

Anyone else any other recommendations?

Thanks

Northcote, Lisa Goodwin-Allen's Michelin starred restaurant / hotel in Langho just north of Blackburn?

They request advice of allergies / special requirements at time of booking - but I'm reasonably confident they could accommodate gluten free.

Thanks those places look absolutely beautiful but a little bit expensive and out of our price range for two nights on this occasion as its not a special birthday.

We don’t really want a tasting menu thinking more gastro pub food so we can dress comfortably and relax. Its so difficult. Our requirements are as follows;

Accommodates Gluten Free
Not bothered about a tasting menu more thinking gastro pub/bistro style nice food not overly posh prohibitively expensive
King or Super-King beds
We don’t want a pet friendly room
Not bothered about tasting menu or spa treatment

We thought about Wensleydale Heifer but they don’t have availability, Inn at Whitewell (but not many GF choices), Mallyan Sprout (but menu not great for two nights). Feel like I am going round in circles.

We love Rudding Park in Harrogate, The Crab & Lobster in Thirsk and Beadnell Towers in Beadnell.

Also The Lord Crewe in Bamburgh has been taken over and gets amazing reviews.

I went to an amazing place in Liverpool, spa hotel with deals and great GF meals. I know it’s not what you’ve asked for but I’d recommend.

We stayed here, only 2 rooms, beautiful, peaceful and such personal service that you could request GF in advance. They will do an evening meal in advance or plenty pubs etc nearby. They have 2 lovely guest lounges to chill in at night.

@Doidontimmm we once had an awful experience in a small guest house fairly close to Alton Towers. This was bad enough to knock us off staying somewhere small for life. The place was decorated lovely, we had a family room which was very spacious but the owners were weird in the extreme. We heard them shouting and being very rude to some other guests at breakfast. So we were on tenterhooks about them starting on us. I have never eaten breakfast so fast in all my life and couldn’t wait to leave. The whole experience just felt really weird, uncomfortable and like we were unwanted/uninvited guests at someone else’s house.

Rockcliffe Hall, very nice for a treat - and the spa is really lovely

TheGenerousGardener · 11/03/2023 09:20

Fischer's at Baslow is beautiful and they will do great gluten free food for you with a little advance notice.

Nw22 · 11/03/2023 09:33

I recently stayed at the tawny and they had good gf options.

Lord Crewe Blanchland

Look around Buxton. There's usually deals to be had for the hotels, and there's nice places to eat in Buxton. We are stopping at the spa hotel which was pretty reasonable for 5 star. The palace is fine, especially for the upgraded rooms, staff were nice (haven't been since 2019 admittedly), not posh but elegant in a faded glory sort of way, Britannia hotels get a bad rap but considering the low priced deals you can often get we thought they did a good job. I'm not gluten free though.

Feversham Arms in Helmsley, North Yorkshire. It's just divine

I promise this is nothing like that! Read all the reviews. It was quiet, host was brilliant & not intrusive at all.

@Thisismy3rdusername this looks lovely and so does the area. But DH isn’t bothered about a spa so ideally would like to get somewhere nice for a budget of about £175 (hotel room and breakfast) don’t need a spa, tasting menu or pet friendly) but would love a king or super king bed.

Thanks

This in Lancaster?

Worth asking them about GF as it's a small place.

The link didn’t work for me, could you name it please?

Doidontimmm · 13/03/2023 06:18

@Ishouldbeoutside yes it’s Harnham Hall in Belsay
