Nice Hotel recommendations in the North please

Hotel recommendations for couple in North of England (Yorkshire, Northumberland, Derbyshire, Lancashire and Scotland) ideally gluten free for a relaxing couple of days.

Want somewhere nice with good costumer service, where we can relax and feel comfortable. Doesn’t need to be spa hotel, Michelin star rated or overly posh and overly expensive.

Holdsworth House?

@HalfasleepChrisintheMorning Shipton Mill looks lovely but whilst the low beams look lovely and add atmosphere they will be no good for DH and the food is a little bit too fancy for me.

I was after something similar and have just booked the Swan hotel at Newby Bridge. Obviously haven't been but it looks lovely and in a great location.

I have stayed and eaten at the Wensleydale Heifer several times, it was excellent and would have been at the top of my list if you hadn’t already said they don’t have availability.

We have also been to:
Yorebridge House
The Black Swan at Oldstead
The Traddock

(These might be a bit over budget)

We have stayed at Feversham Arms at Helmsley (beautiful hotel) but didn’t eat there- we went to an Italian in the town. Have you looked at the Black Swan At Helmsley? I haven’t been but it might work for you.

BeeBB · 15/03/2023 18:51

Thank you @Cottipus I will take a look at these. Helmsley looks lovely but the only pub or hotel in budget and free didn’t get good reviews.

Still going round in circles. Checking reviews, looking at bed sizes, locations, availability, prices, menu options, gluten free options etc.

I was thinking about maybe the White Swan at Pickering, Lister Arms, Red Lion at Burnsall (but possibly too rural) or Plum & Partridge near York.

@BeeBB the Royal Hotel in Kirkby Lonsdale is lovely and there are lots of restaurants and cafes surrounding it so even if the gluten free options aren't very good at the hotel there will definitely be something a short walk away

We recently stayed at the North Lakes Spa Hotel in the lake district. It was fantastic, great service, lovely clean and modern rooms, nice on site bar and restaurant, with a lovely big conservatory to sit in, oh and a pool and spa. We can't wait to go back.

Scotland isn’t in the north of England Confused

This was lovely. A wee bit outside Carlisle. Very cosy.
