Where can DH and I 'hang out' for dinner/drinks whilst the dcs are at a gig at the Brixton O2?

DH and I have about 3-4 hours to kill one evening next month once we drop off the dcs at a gig (whilst waiting to collect and bring them home afterwards). Can anyone who knows the area suggest any nice restaurants for a leisurely dinner and/or anywhere where we can go for a relaxing drink or three?

Pop Brixton is great shout, lots of different choices. I once got v drunk there on tequila which I do not recommend.

@balalake

Dulwich Village?
@balalake - that's slightly too far away - doesn't have much there anyway apart from pub, The Real Greek and Pizza Express.

Herne Hill, which is a bit nearer has better options in terms of pubs, bars and restaurants.

Salon in Brixton Market: gorgeous. The Laundry is also nice & pretty chill. They’re the first 2 that come to mind. I can’t believe people are suggesting heading other locations! Brixton’s got tons to offer.

I would go to the department store

Salon in Brixton Market, amazing food and great atmosphere, been twice, not cheap though. Have fun wherever you go x

Sorry I didn’t see you had already suggested Salon, isn’t it great?

DS and I went to Asmara Eritrean restaurant in Brixton before a gig once. It's designed to look like someone's living room. Good food and lovely atmosphere. You could while away some hours there.

You really don't need to leave Brixton. There are loads of places near the Academy.

Salon in Market Row is lovely. There is also a great traditional Sicilian restaurant called Trattoria Franzina on Coldharbour Lane. Kricket on Atlantic Road is a high-end Indian with cocktail bar attached. If you want a nice cosy pub to relax in with decent food, the Trinity Arms is cute or maybe the Canton Arms up in Stockwell (10 mins walk from Academy). If you're feeling adventurous, Chishuru in Market Row is an incredible West African restaurant. You'll probably need to book in any of these places as it's quite the destination these days. A bit different to when I lived there 20 years ago!

Brixton is horrible - all loud r&b and rap music, dirty streets and drugs. Hop on the bus at Brixton tube and go 10 minutes down the road to Herne Hill. There are lovely quiet pubs and restaurants there.

@DrDetriment They're probably not 70 years old, and while we live near HH and love it, Brixton definitely has a far superior selection of restaurants, and something for everyone. Obviously it has a not great side like everywhere but as long as you're not there at 2am I'd say you're probably fine Confused.
