Where can DH and I 'hang out' for dinner/drinks whilst the dcs are at a gig at the Brixton O2?

DH and I have about 3-4 hours to kill one evening next month once we drop off the dcs at a gig (whilst waiting to collect and bring them home afterwards). Can anyone who knows the area suggest any nice restaurants for a leisurely dinner and/or anywhere where we can go for a relaxing drink or three?

can your dc not go to the gig by public transport - then all you'd have to do is pick them up at the end?

Fivemoreminutes1 · 10/03/2022 18:38

Canova Hall

AnotherNC22 · 10/03/2022 18:56

Go to Brixton market! Loads of different food and drink places. brixtonvillage.com/eat There's some great one off places for Thai and Chinese as well as chains like Franco Manca and Honest Burgers.

If you want to be nearer the venue, then Canova Hall is also very nice. www.canovahall.com/

Thanks for all the replies so far. A rookie question - but does the Brixton Market stay open all evening?

I’ve got the same thing with Manchester 02 Apollo. I used to live in Manchester and don’t remember the area round there being very nice.

@MsFogi It definitely open until at least 11pm on a Thurs-Sun. I think Mon is the only day it shuts early? But i haven't been lately so i don't know if some of the traders have changed hours due to covid.

I went here for the same reason several years ago. Food was great and there is a lively bar too.

Most of the restaurants in Brixton are for a young crowd and very lively! I enjoy them but could never describe them as leisurely or relaxing Grin.

The Ritzy cinema is great though - do you fancy a movie while they're at the gig?

NameChangingGame · 11/03/2022 13:49

The Ritzy is a great shout, and I'd agree that Brixton is very hip.

I would highly recommend The Camberwell Arms for a meal and drinks, the food is really excellent.

Yeah I’m not sure that “nice restaurant” is how I’d describe the restaurants that in that area. Cool restaurants definitely in the market - it’s a pretty vibrant, lively area.

NameChangingGame · 11/03/2022 13:50

I forgot to add - its only 10 mins away

Newnormal99 · 11/03/2022 14:23

I do get a chance to do something else! I have just recently booked a couple of concerts for my dd there but have to accompany her due to age. I'll be the old frumpy parent at the back while she pretends she doesn't know me!

@MsFogi - yes it does. There are also lots of pubs (Prince of Wales, Dog Star, Effra Tavern etc.

@Divebar2021 - but there’s Brindisi, Franco Manca pizzas etc.

OP - let us know your taste. Clapham North and Clapham Common are just up the road with loads of options.

@A580Hojas! - depends as I have seen nog young people in Brixton market restaurants and I’m no spring chicken either!

Satay Bar and Blues Kitchen are two very popular restaurants and Market House bar has reopened. Both 2-3 mins from Brixton Ritzy.

Etinoxaurus · 11/03/2022 14:36

Nandos and Ritzy would be a fab evening @MsFogi

My Dad made us wait on the steps of the police station after a gig at the Academy, back in the nineties. We saw him come out of what we were sure was a strip club close to midnight, although he always maintained it was just showing the boxing..!

I believe him...

Mufflette · 11/03/2022 15:01

Cheese + Fizz, Salon or Mama Lan in the market, Blues Kitchen or if you're up for a bus down the hill then Naughty Piglets is lovely.

onemouseplace · 11/03/2022 15:05

Naughty Piglets on Brixton Water Lane is really excellent for a spot of dinner www.naughtypiglets.co.uk/ About a 10 min walk from central Brixton.

Brixton Village is good (and fine for all ages). Pop Brixton is good fun as well just next to Brixton Village - you can always tell who is on at the Academy by the age of people going for a pre-gig drink there popbrixton.org/

Ribb · 11/03/2022 15:15

Ferndale Road where Canova Hall is has a few other bars / restaurants.
Brixton Village has lots of options and is open fairly late.
Satay Bar you may need to book on a weekend for dinner but is open v late.
4 hours means you could get to Clapham High St quickly by bus (top of Acre Lane) if you felt inclined to and lots more restaurants and bars on offer.
In Clapham, Tsunami really good and Aquum for vibes with cocktails.

balalake · 11/03/2022 18:36

Dulwich Village?

You're right, Ardwick is not somewhere where you'll find nice bars to wait in. Go up to Piccadilly and there's much more choice
