Wet week in Pembrokeshire - suggestions!

We're off to Pembrokeshire next week and the weather forecast looks wet. Any suggestions for family days out in the rain! Kids are 5 and 3. Folly farm and Pembroke castle are on the list. We're staying near Freshwater East.

My 3yo hates rain 😔

The Stackpole Inn, which I’d definitely recommend a visit to. Without doubt this was one of the best meals we had during our trip to Pembrokeshire.

Don't forget you need to Pre-book for folly farm . You need to get a ticket off Eventbrite for entrance and then get your usual entrance ticket.

Dinosaur park most likely won't open most attractions in the rain, plus it's awful. Equally manor park. I don't think blue lagoon is open to general public just people staying there but do check. Very little to do here in the rain. Also if you are bringing a dog please check which beaches have bans/partial bans. Just looked on instagram and hangar five haven't posted since March so they appear to be shut. There is a pyo sunflower field on the road to little Haven from Tiers Cross. I also saw something new has opened in Fishguard possibly a small aquarium?

DH is from Pembrokeshire. This has been my life for the last twenty odd years 🤣. Luckily my two are of Pembrokeshire/Devon stock and are not bothered by the rain. It’s unlikely to be as bad as forecast. Castles are good. Wetsuits in less crowded beaches, you’ll be wet anyway. Have a fab time. We’re heading that way end of the month.

Folly Farm is brilliant and a favourite day out for my kids.

If the Bug Farm near St David's is open that's a great trip out. We went during our very wet week in Solva a couple of years ago which is now known as 'the holiday when we all hated each other'.

Argh I hope this isn't a holiday where we hate each other, but it does have potential!

Does anyone know any good child friendly pubs?!

The rain hating 3yo is dragged out daily in all weather's, but if anything is made him worse 😬

National Botanical Gardens isn't too far from Pembrokeshire (on the way if you're travelling the M4 corridor), they have an enormous spaceship looking greenhouse which is lovely for a wander around along with the extensive gardens and butterfly house The British Birds of Prey centre is there too and unless the weather is terrible hold flying displays through the day and it's possible to book private flying sessions too.

We loved it although it was very busy on a rainy day. DS did the bug handling experience and nearly died laughing because one of the cockroaches had the same name as DH. I are cricket cookies in the cafe.

National Botanic Gardens are fab but the butterfly house is closed at the moment, in case that would be a main reason for going!

The county show is on 17/18/19 have a google of pembrokeshire county show.

Take cagoules and wellies.

@OohKittens the county show is cancelled this year. The dates on their website is for next year.
Hangar 5 is either open or open imminently as a family member works there.

Indecisivelurcher I see you have tried to desensitise the 3 year old to rain with no joy. My two plus DH hate the heat so happy days at our place at the moment. They are hoping for normal Pembrokeshire weather on our visit 😆.

Whatever the weather go to Tenby and play on the beach - there are caves and rock pools as well as the sea.
There is an amusement arcade and lots of family friendly places to eat.

Bosherston Lily Ponds are great and lead to a beach with sand dunes to slide down.

Drive to St Davids as the cathedral is great and on the way back stop at Whitesands beach

Just reread and yes the county show is next year. Whitesands is a beautiful beach and has a complete dog ban.

Yes here in Pembs Whatever the Weather is the motto.Wet suits and water, I'm not sure if Oriel Y Parc gallery is open in St. Davids.,Cathedral and Bishops Palace seen in the mist its out of this world inside a magical space with miserichords (sic) Lovely for little ones to find the stories under the pew's seats.
Castles magic and further afield Castell Henllys Iron Age forts to live as the Celts did.
But best of all after the rain sunsets at beaches quiet spots not too many people or cars.. Night skies full of stars. Walk on the Preselli Hills To keep happy play games if stuck indoors. Just laugh and remember the sodden fish and chips in a rock pool wonder. Within miles a forest or a valley provides a hidden suntrap, or pool to dip in.

We're also going to Pembrokeshire next week but with a 14yo and an 11yo. Hoping the weather isn't as bad as all that else it will definitely be the holiday where we all hate each other.

Thanks - you too. I'm not sure whether a 3yo or a teenager is the biggest challenge on a rainy holiday. Wetsuits and bodyboards whatever the weather for us I think.

If soft play is your thing, the one in Haverfordwest called the Lions Den has opened, you have to book a slot though.
