4 people... would you want 1 bathroom or 2?

We are renovating our annex which is a 2 bedroom holiday let. We have the opportunity to add an extra bathroom so it would be 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms rather than 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The question of course is whether the cost of doing so will be offset by the extra bookings we get or the bit extra we can charge. There is also a downstairs loo.
So what do you think? If you were going to an idyllic rural retreat with another couple, or with your children, would you be put off only having one bathroom?
P.s. I am aware lots of us make do with one bathroom and no downstairs loo... us included!! But I'd love to know what general opinion is on this. Would you book somewhere with 2 bathrooms over 1 bathroom? (Even at the same price.... I am considering the fact there is competition around us too so need to tick all the boxes).
Or does it just not bother you at all?

I would definitely prefer two bathrooms (or one bath with shower over and one shower) but if everything else about it was perfect I'd get over it.

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/05/2020 14:36

I’ve never lived anywhere with more than one bathroom but I think it would be handy for a holiday let, especially as you say if going with another couple, or maybe parents? Can’t hurt to have two if it’s an easy option

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/05/2020 14:36

Definitely prefer two if it's possible, all other things being equal.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/05/2020 14:42

Would prefer two but wouldn’t not go somewhere if there was only one. Would they both have showers? If not, I’d be reluctant to bother.

whatisheupto · 14/05/2020 14:45

Thanks so much for replies so far... I really thought people would err towards it's just not necessary. But yes I think I'd feel a bit weird if sharing with another couple. And thank you @trickywords I was wondering about the importance of a bath too....

Yes they would both have showers.

I should say one would have a walk in shower and the other a shower over the bath.

2 bathrooms. My friend and her husband always look for holiday lets with more than one toilet as she has crohns disease.

I think having the option of a bath with a shower over and a walk in shower is a win win.

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2020 14:50

I would probably discount somewhere with one bathroom unless it was unique and the only property that I could rent for a particular reason. All things being equal, I'd always go for two bathrooms (even if it's just for DH and me!)

Okki · 14/05/2020 14:51

Will it be 2 en-suite bathrooms? For a holiday a bit of luxury is always nice, so to have your own bathroom means you either don't have to share with mucky children or you get your privacy from older children/ adults.

whatisheupto · 14/05/2020 14:51

Thanks @chunkyriverfish. So you think a bath is pretty essential? Because I was considering whether to go for 2 walk in showers....

Agree with @chunkyriverfish.

The bath/shower and walk in shower is the perfect combination. On holiday, I like to have a bath and relax but don’t want to have to wash my hair with a jug.

waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2020 14:52

I wouldn’t book for 4 unless there were at least 2 bathrooms

waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2020 14:53

I have looked at gorgeous lets before and not booked because of only 1 bathroom so I really think it’ll make a difference to your bookings.

whatisheupto · 14/05/2020 14:55

Oh @mynameiscalypso that is very good to know.... you're absolutely right... even if it is just one couple it's still nice to have 2 bathrooms!! I hadn't thought of that but I'd love my own bathroom separate from DH! Good point because I will be happy to let to a couple if no groups of 4 have booked...

LolaSmiles · 14/05/2020 14:55

I'd book a 2 bed place for 4 people with one bathroom if I was booking a family holiday with children.
I wouldn't book somewhere with one bathroom if we were staying with another couple.

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/05/2020 14:56

I'd be happy with one and wouldn't pay extra for 2. Prefer bath over shower to shower cubicle/no bath.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 14/05/2020 14:56

I book holiday cottages for our 4 person nuclear family every year and I would be neutral on the subject of a second bathroom (as long as there was an additional loo), but I would rule out a cottage without a bath.

whatisheupto · 14/05/2020 14:57

@okki one is essentially an en suite.... the bathroom and bedroom are kind of down a little corridor on their own and the doors are right next to eachother at right angles. The other one is not en suite.

OP posts:
Murinae · 14/05/2020 14:58

I wouldn’t book for 4 unless there were at least two toilets but not that fussed about two bathrooms. Husband likes a bath. I hate them and hate climbing over baths for a shower so would prefer a walk in shower. So mostly I book holiday let’s with two bathrooms, one with walk in shower and one with a bath. Our kids also hate sharing so usually book three bedroom properties.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/05/2020 14:59

Not being an en-suite wouldn’t stop me if it would by mine and DH’s bathroom. If they are miles apart, maybe it would be a bit of a downside but it’s a holiday home, not a permanent residence.

BabyMoonPie · 14/05/2020 15:01

I don't think 2 bathrooms are necessary but 2 toilets are. A bath is a must for us with a small child who doesn't like / isn't used to showers yet

Flamingolingo · 14/05/2020 15:01

I think it depends on the layout. I’d rather have one decent bathroom over two poky ones. I don’t tend to mind the number of bathrooms in a holiday let, but an additional wc is a bonus. My MIL gets funny about bathrooms which I find bizarre because they only have one so we all have to share when we stay with them anyway!

Myneighboursnorlax · 14/05/2020 15:02

If there is a downstairs toilet already, so one bathroom but two toilets, then I don’t think it matters so much. I wouldn’t stay somewhere with 4 people and only one toilet, but only having one bath/shower would be fine.

SpyApp · 14/05/2020 15:04

Having a gorgeous bath would be a massive plus in the cooler months. A properly deep one to soak in after long walks.
