Stunning sea views for a weekend break in December, preferably self catering

I’m 50 next year and I’m starting to think about where to spend the weekend. I definitely want to be in a frontline coastal place with fantastic views of the sea to wake up to, not too fussed about location it really is the views that’ll decide where we go

Would prefer self catering but open to anything as long as the views are there, prepared to push the boat out financially (hence the forward planning so I can save up)

Any help would be massively appreciated 😊

Woolacombe (or Ilfracombe, or several of the other towns along that coast)!

I went there for a bit of solo adult mental self-care and contemplation a few years ago and genuinely loved it. The sea views were wonderful and Woolacombe bay is massive and glorious!

You don't say whether you are looking for UK or abroad but I am assuming UK.

This hotel in Pembrokeshire has magnificent coastal views. There are lovely cliff top walks and the food there is great too:

There are self catering cottages too...

For how many people, I stayed in a lovely beach hut in Hele Bay with the sounds of the waves crashing and amazing sunsets, we also had a hot tub.

TeapotCollection · 06/03/2020 09:56

Thank you folks 😊 will look at all of those, it’s just me and my husband going, definitely UK. We’ve been to Woolacombe before and loved it there so that’s an option. Never been to Wales so that would be different

FAQs could you tell me more please?

The Headland Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall has self catering cottages in its grounds, great cliff edge location overlooking sea and Fistral beach. You also have the benefit of being able to use the hotel restaurant and spa facilities, can’t recommend it enough have been going there for years for winter breaks!

Haulfryn House in Abersoch.

It's beautiful. Have a look on their Facebook page for pictures looking out over the sea.

Talland Bay Hotel between Looe and Polperro. The views are amazing and the staff are lovely and look after you so well. Amazing food and the whole experience is one of luxury. It’s an arm and a leg job but so worth it. This is the view I woke up to every morning.

St Ives.

Lots of self catering see view accomodation, such as this or this or maybe this one

ElsasSalamander · 06/03/2020 15:12

We stayed once in a lovely cottage on the cliffs in Harlech, North Wales - used to be owned by the Cadbury family. The views of the bay were absolutely stunning & there was direct beach access via some very steep steps in the neighbouring paddock.
The house itself has been extended since we stayed so may be too big for just 2 of you but was such a gorgeous location I had to mention it!

TeapotCollection · 06/03/2020 16:29

Lots of options, thank you all. Some of them only do Friday to Monday though which we can’t do

Those two in Cornwall are looking promising so far 😊

Never been to Wales! You are in for a treat, start with a little shopping in Chester or a shop and night out in Liverpool then into Wales and work south

I've been to the Brudenell in Aldeburgh, practically on the beach, in January. Not much daylength though at that time of the year.

ScribblingMilly · 06/03/2020 21:11

Some very chic ones at uniquehomestays.com. You can put 'waterfront' into the search settings.

Theukisgreatt · 06/03/2020 21:13

My friend stayed in one in newquay over the beach. The views of the sunset over the sea looked stunning. The actual place was very chic too.

We stayed in October and Tenby is just beautiful, the views from the above where simply stunning.

We loved every minute. Can't wait to go back.

North Berwick is absolutely beautiful, though you will want to wrap up in December. Grin

Ribeebie · 06/03/2020 21:28

I second @TheSimpleThings17 you really can't beat The Headland at Fistral

BlushRosePink · 06/03/2020 21:31

The Scarlet at Morgan Porth. It's a lovely adults only hotel with a sea view from almost everywhere.

Throughabushbackwards · 06/03/2020 21:41

This house in Dungeness is simply magical: www.homelikenoplace.com/

Dungeness is perfect for a weekend away by the sea. It's such an interesting environment, so much to discover just wandering about.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/03/2020 21:49

These photos don't do it justice but the views from the master bedroom here are amazing. Direct, private beach access and gorgeous long walks either along the beach into Saundersfoot or the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path goes for miles and miles.
