UK city breaks....where to go?

Looking got UK city break ideas, where to go and what to do?

Can travel to most places easily enough. Ideally not Scotland, from Aberdeen so been to most places up this way.
Haven’t been to London in a number of years, but done a fair amount of the touristy stuff. Also been to Cambridge most recently.

Fairly easy going, somewhere nice, good bars/pubs and just with stuff to do near by.

I live in Chester and friends that visit really love it.

Gawd no, don't go to Coventry! Stay in Stratford upon Avon- it's lovely! The Hotel du Vin is superb.

Not Sheffield if you aren't driving. There isn't enough in the city centre of interest.

To be fair plenty going for pretty much any city.

Harrogate is not a city and really doesn't have much to see.
Chester is terrific, much better than York which I do love, but is very busy and expensive. Chester has as much if not more history, but isn't as busy. Plus feeding squirrels in the park!
I also rate Liverpool, Lancaster and Leicester.

I think we’ve narrowed it down to liverpool & Newcastle, both seem to have a good mix of stuff for us to do.

My husband is from Liverpool and we live in Newcastle (I'm not from here originally) Of the two cities I would choose Liverpool to visit.
