UK city breaks....where to go?

Looking got UK city break ideas, where to go and what to do?

Can travel to most places easily enough. Ideally not Scotland, from Aberdeen so been to most places up this way.
Haven’t been to London in a number of years, but done a fair amount of the touristy stuff. Also been to Cambridge most recently.

Fairly easy going, somewhere nice, good bars/pubs and just with stuff to do near by.

:)

Newcastle? Loads to do, and near a beautiful coastline.

SimonJT · 12/01/2020 11:26

Manchester is a great city, compact, great public transport and lots to do.

BlouseAndSkirt · 12/01/2020 11:29

York

The perfect city break place. Picturesque, packed with historical stuff, arty, famous cafes....

Brighton- i360, pavilion, wandering the independent shops, beachfront walk, tea at the Grand.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2020 11:29

Liverpool is my favourite

Belfast good for a few days to include a trip to Giants Causeway

York and/or Harrogate

jeremypaxo · 12/01/2020 11:30

Bath! Beautiful, loads to do and all manageable in a weekend.

Srictlybakeoff · 12/01/2020 11:32

York is lovely and so interesting historically. Great pubs too.

AnnaMagnani · 12/01/2020 11:35

Liverpool - loads to do, all the museums are free except the one about the Atlantic War Centre, which is brilliant BTW, and there are loads of places to eat. Easy to get round by bus/Metro.

maddy68 · 12/01/2020 11:43

Liverpool, my go to place :)

Norwich, Canterbury.

Loads to see / do in Liverpool, I was surprised h I w nice the city was!!
Belfast really interesting and nice city, also (as per pp), close enough to go explore Northern Ireland sights such as giants causeway.

With kids or without? What kind of things do you like best? Art? Museums? Sights? Independent or hipster?

user137473 · 12/01/2020 13:05

That should have said fancy or hipster?

Jins · 12/01/2020 13:07

York, Liverpool, Belfast, Bristol are my top four.

Leicester, Worcester, Norwich were good for me as well but I’m into medieval history and wanted to see particular things

Mumofone87 · 12/01/2020 13:58

Loads of great suggestions. Without kids, and just anything really.

Absolutely loved Liverpool when we were there for a few days in the summer. Been to many more 'exciting' locations, but we keep talking about how much we enjoyed Liverpool. Might help that we were there in the heatwave, but still..it was excellent.

Funf · 13/01/2020 17:04

Easy
Liverpool.
Loads going on nice friendly compact city, cheap too

Agree with everyone - Liverpool, Bath, Bristol and Leeds/York would be my top 4!

Nat6999 · 13/01/2020 18:02

Sheffield, easy to get out to the peak district, only 15 minutes drive from the city centre, quite a few air bnb places actually in the peak district, Matlock Bath, Buxton, plus Chatsworth is a lovely place to visit. Nottingham, easy to get to Rufford or Clumber parks, both great for walks or picnics.

Sewingbea · 14/01/2020 19:05

York, Durham, Chester relatively near to you (well, sort of...). Further away - Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Coventry as a base with Stratford on Avon/ Warwick as a trip out.
