Hit me with your Wales must-dos!

We're hiring a campervan for a week in August starting and finishing in Swansea with DC 12 and 9. Probably won't bother with Gower as fairly familiar with that. Don't know Wales outside of that at all!

Need rainy day options and some outdoorsy things - cant do cycling or anything remotely scary as DS hates all that, but we love kayaking and walks. And we're quite keen on mountains (unless scary) and castles and beaches. And the odd museum. And FOOD!!!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Dinefwr is gorgeous and about 45 mins from Swansea. Has a castle, a stately house, deer park and a nature reserve. You could go there and then to the Cawdor in Llandeilo? This is just to the west of the Brecon Beacons if you want mountains.

Also near to there is Dolacothi gold mine which is great

Google zip world. Its not all scary and the fforest coaster is great as well as bounce below.

I would go around Pembrokeshire - Tenby/Manorbier/Bosheston/Carew

Check out the coastal path, especially around Fishguard/Pembroke as you'll have a better chance of seeing dolphins and seals. St David's is beautiful, Tenby is a lovely seaside town - New Quay a much quieter version. Have a look at 'what's on' as you might find small music festivals of local bands depending on when you go.

Brecon Beacons has Pen Y Fan, lots of walks featured around & Dan Yr Ogaf caves.

St fagans is a great museum to go around.

All of Pembrokeshire is lush, Whitesands, Tenby is a must, Barafundle Bay.

A good bowl of Cawl is a must.
Tenby has some amazing places to eat

Tenby, Pembroke Castle was good came with a free tour - we ate in lovely pub by water just past castle, there a theme park just outside Tendby my DC have been to and liked.

St Fagins, Cardiff castle, Caerleon Roman Fortress and baths , caerwent, The Brecon Mountain Railway All things someone in the family has done and loved.

Ultracomida in Narberth for food.

Maybe too far but the Preseli "mountains" are stunning.

Manorbier is good for a day- pretty beach and castle and a decent pub.

I think the coast path goes round the whole of Wales now.

Also I know you said not Gower but if you’re in Swansea anyway how about popping down to Oxwich for stand up paddle boarding?

YY to Pembrokeshire, Tenby, Barafundle is amazing. If you do venture that way, you can sometimes do rock climbing at Stackpole too, in a disused quarry.

Folly Farm is down that way, and Oakwood. Would second Narbeth for meandering and food. Bluestone has an indoor water park open to non-residents if weather is rubbish, although it does get busy. Also the LC in Swansea.

Crib Goch route up Snowdon is brilliant.

The Zipwire is also great fun.

Oakwood - that was the theme park I meant earlier - couldn't remember it's name.

Boat trip to see seals and dolphins. Lots to chose from in Pembrokeshire.

Folly farm, Breacon Hills (foodie- epic burgers), plenty of castles. Mumbles.

Wetlands in Llanelli.

Waterfall walks in Neath but if there is a heatwave like last year they could just be a trickle in August.

Castell Coch, the fairytale "castle" just off the M4.

Swansea centre, Plantasia, 2 free museums, the Glynn Vivian art gallery. Ten pin bowling, 2 cinemas. Singleton Park and botanical gardens. Boating Lake with pedalos. Mumbles, slot machine arcade, a bowling alley, cafe.

Tenby is beautiful. Me DH and DS went last year and we found an amazing restaurant called the fat seagull some of the best food I have ever eaten.

OK I think Tenby's on the list!

Sorry, I should have been clearer, PIL live in Swansea so we're starting there but don't need to see anything there! Want to 'do' as much of the country as we can! Loving all the suggestions

Laugharne is a great place for a day out, Full of Dylan Thomas history and beautiful countryside too.

Also in that part of Carmarthenshire is the National Botanical Gardens of Wales which are glorious

If you like castles there’s Raglan and Abergavenny castle pretty close to each other. Also the Blorange, skirrids and sugarloaf mountains nearby.

Take a ride on one of several steam train lines

Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth Powis

Solva and St Davids. You can keep going up from there. Aberaeron etc. Its all beautiful.

I love Tenby, it's such a beautiful unspoiled place and the beach is lovely. Manorbier is worth a visit too.
