Luxury hotel in the north of England?

tranquilitybasehotel · 17/10/2018 18:27

Hi
Me and DP have a special anniversary coming up and want to book in to a really special hotel for the night.
Our budget is approx £400 a night and can be anywhere in the north of England. An example of what we would like is something like one of the boutique suites at the Cranleigh boutique in Windermere thecranleigh.com/luxury-accommodation/boutique-hotel-lake-district/boutique-suites/ but we have stayed their before and want something different.
Ideally it would be within walking distance/short taxi journey to the local town with a decent decent restaurant/bar.
So wise Mumsnetters what can you come up with?
Thanks

Winteringham Fields. It’s near Scunthorpe, but is a restaurant with rooms.

If you like the lakes, you might like Rothay Manor in Ambleside - it's about a five/ten minute walk into the village along roads. Excellent restaurant.

Rudding Park Harrogate

redwineandcrisps · 17/10/2018 18:47

Was just about to say Rudding Park. Amazing place ❤️

Gymbunny1986 · 17/10/2018 19:06

Rudding Park is lovely.

Also look at the Crab and Lobster at Thirsk, Brimstone near Ambleside and Aphrodites lodge at Bowness. All are lovely but different.

Northcote Manor near Manchester

Feversham Arms and Verbena Spa in Helmsley, North Yorks (great Spa with outdoor pool and a nice restaurant, picturesque little town).

Crab Manor (Crab and Lobster) at Asenby near Thirsk (boutique rooms inside the main hotel and amazing luxury rooms in the grounds, in different styles such as Noweigian Nordic lodge or Bora Bora lodge, with private hot tubs, and lovely restaurant).

Jesmond Dene House Hotel, Newcastle (Lovely rooms and restaurant, no spa though, in a country feel setting in the Dene but a stone’s throw from Newcastle city centre).

Marine Macdonald Spa Hotel, North Berwick (in Scotland, right on the sea with a nice little spa including outdoor jacuzzi, golf course, nice town to explore and train service to Edinburgh).

Oh also, I forgot Rockcliffe Hall

Holbeck Ghyll Get a lakeview room. Fine dining restaurant and onsite spa. We enjoyed a rare childfree night here when we lived in the NW.

Unsure123123 · 17/10/2018 20:31

Rockcliffe Hall. One of the best in the country.

Pebblesandfriends · 17/10/2018 20:33

Matfen hall

AgentCooper · 17/10/2018 20:33

Northcote is just amazing. The chef is Lisa Allen, who's done really well on Great British Menu and the food and rooms are stunning. You can get a taxi easily into Clitheroe or Whalley.

dysdiado · 17/10/2018 20:45

How about The Grosvenor in Chester? It's city centre with its own excellent restaurants, bar and spa. Alternatively, lots of restaurant to choose from around Chester. Then there's the shopping, Roman walls and the river Dee to see. www.chestergrosvenor.com/

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 17/10/2018 20:47

I just arrived to say Rudding Park. Beaten to it several times over! Wonderful. It's always winning awards and I think it's won hotel of the year again this year.

Gilpin Lodge is the very favourite place ever for some friends of ours who are in the hospitality business, very widely travelled and have extremely high standards
