mm shame you mentioned cheap... was going to suggest The Sharrow bay Hotel but cheap it ain't!

Grasmere is lovely or the Inn On the Lake at Ullswater - very pretty.

Mind we do camping so maybe I'm not one to ask that may not save the aforementioned marriage..............

Lucycat · 27/02/2007 14:39

The Inn on the Lake actually has an offer on at the moment, pay for one DBB and get a second night free.

Twiglett · 27/02/2007 14:47

looking at 1 April on unfortunately

Sharrow bay looks fab .. but £420 a night? .. eek

this is making this look far more reasonable ..

its affordable .. but a stretch

L'Enclume in Cartmel.
Fabulous restaurant with room. The rooms are all kitted out with antiques, lovely bathrooms, the one we had had a big roll top bath.here

The Drunken Duck at Barngates near Tarn Hows is supposed to be very pretty
Sharrow Bay not really my cup of tea, and possibly too po-faced for some quality R & R. Food is glorious though

And there is some new boutiquey type place in Ambleside which looks rather glam

AntEater · 27/02/2007 15:14

Hi Twiggs
If I was coming to the Lakes on a Save a marriage mission on a budget I would try the Howtown Hotel...
Stunning location (better than the Sharrow) good food (owners of Sharrow used to eat here before they croaked)

Good luck!

Samling and it is in Windermere...
God I love the Howtown's setting Anteater (have only yomped past alas)
Twig do not google boutiue hotel and Lake District unless you like four posters draped in frilly net curtains

AntEater · 27/02/2007 15:19

mind you looking out accross Ullswater now and its Pi..ing dowm!!

Marina · 27/02/2007 15:20

And you can see how far across the lake exactly

boomie · 27/02/2007 15:24

We have just come back from a couple of nights at the Samling and it was fantastic. Although not cheap, they do special midweek breaks so may be worth a phone call. The food was out of this world.

seb1 · 27/02/2007 15:25

If it doesn't have to be the Lake District my friends says this place is great loch lommond

AntEater · 27/02/2007 15:29

Took dw to Samling last week, very lovely but VERY £££.

Blu · 27/02/2007 15:29

Howtown is a shlepp if you want to go anywhere else, though, isn't it? And hardly bustling. Fine if you want to, you know, stay in a lot.

AntEater · 27/02/2007 15:32

Shelepp??

Blu · 27/02/2007 15:35

Rare Cumbrain dialect word, Anteater.

I like Howtown, though.

AntEater · 27/02/2007 15:39

Twig, 1st April for how many nights?

Marina · 27/02/2007 15:40

How can you say that when exciting Dalemain and the Rheged Centre are just up the road Blu

bubblerock · 27/02/2007 15:42

When are you looking to go?
