We're in North Yorkshire! Where shall we go?

Staying with DH and DDs 5 and 8 about 5 miles inland from Whitby.

Has anyone any recommendations for nice places we could visit?

We like quiet beaches but they need to have parking very close by as DH can't walk far.

Also I would love to know where the good farm shops and craft galleries are.

We went to Playdale farm park today and the girls loved it but it was a bit far to drive so looking for places nearer to our base.

Hope someone can come up with a few ideas for us Smile

The Forbidden Corner (best place on earth for kids)

Seaside-wise... Any of the Holderness coast towns:

Whitby is stunning and my favourite.
Scarborough (Peasholm Park) there's also a brand new water park there Alpamare Scarborough
Filey is quieter and a good explore on the Briggz

DH mentioned the chocolate place. We were in York 4 years ago, not sure how we managed to miss it that time!

How about some beachy recommendations? Pref quiet and with parking nearby?

Robin Hoods Bay is lovely I'm not sure about parking though.
Forbidden Corner is amazing but make sure you book tickets before you go.

Saltburn has a lovely beach, and you can park in the town and get the old funicular down to the sea. It's about half an hour's drive from Whitby, but much quieter.

We also love Rievaulx Abbey (English Heritage) combined with a gander around Stokesley. Saltburn and Stokesley both have quite a lot of little galleries.

Rosedale Abbey is a very pretty village and manageable if your DH isn't too mobile.

Sandsend - about a mile down the road from Whitby, quiet beach and a little cafe (the Witzend) next to the car park that has log burners and the best sausage sandwiches in the world.

Robin Hood's Bay is one of my favourite places but it's no good for your DH OP. Sandsend is nice although I haven't been there for years and I'm not sure about parking. You can park close to the beach in Saltburn but it is a bit of a drive for you.

Forbidden Corner is brilliant.
Brimham Rocks.
Dalby Forest is great - paddling, play area, picnic and barbecue area, gorgeous walks, Go Ape (if that's your thing) and segways. Gorgeous scenery too.

Parking is great at Sandsend. A big public pay and display, close to beach and cafe.

Ruswarp is about a mile from Whitby and has a nice boating lake.

Thornton Le Dale is a lovely little village, full of pretty tea shops, ice cream places...it has a trout stream running through it. Lovely.

Hutton Le Hole is good for paddling, has a nice tea shop and park. Very pretty.

We wondered about driving to Pickering and getting the little train to Whitby and back - I love steam trains. Is the station in Whitby close to the main part of the town?

And drive up over the moors outside Pickering.
All of it really, it's just a beautiful place.

saltburn is a good call. lovely pie and mash shop and other quirky shops and a nice beach. valley gardens worth a look too.

the stables in whitby are nice for a meal.

staithes is fab and not far at all.

goathland is worth a visit as is pickering.

mini monsters and beacon farm close enough.

Staityes suggested above is very sweet (it's where Old Jacks Boat is filmed) is no good if you can't walk far. You have to park at the top of the village and walk down about 400 really steep steps, then back again.
