I think I just fell in love with...Newcastle

Newcastle!!!!

I am here in Germany and am watching this awesome documentary about Newcastle and now I think I need to go and visit!!!!

For some reason it has never been mentioned as a place to visit in the UK and now I feel betrayed Angry

The people were presented as so nice, warm and chatty. The city looks beautiful and there seems to be so much going on and so much to do and see....

Well I'm going Grin

Never been. We live in North Wales. Parents visited first time this year and loved it, and they are not easy to please.

I lived there for a very long time and was extremely sad to leave (for work)
It's a great city - I've experienced it as a student, a twentysomething with a job and as a parent and it's worked well for all lifestyles. Family and friends also seem to like it to visit.

No Geordie shore. A real documentary!!!! So lovely, I am wondering why this place is not generally recommended as a tourist destination????

I live near there and unfortunately I don't rate it. I much prefer York. Full of history and picturesque.

Hey boogie yes York is of course always mentioned in all those guide books etc.

I think one day would be enough for me in York, but what I've seen from Newcastle now I could see myself staying there for 4-5 days and take advantage of what it has to offer in terms of art, culture and urban life.

I beg to differ. If however, you like London and big cities then Newcastle might be your thing.

Just had a look at the city's website and yes, there are tons of interesting museums and galleries with tons of exhibitions and various events...

Sounds great and very interesting.

Oh it's a great city. Not too big and many areas covered by the Metro. I lived there for a year and had a blast. Now live in the countryside about 25 miles away but sometimes visit. Brilliant place!

Easy on foot as it's not a massive city. The metro's useful if you fancy going a bit further out or are idle like me
Jesmond is lovely if you fancy a few drinks on a nice Summer's evening.

I work on the Quayside in Newcastle. I love it.
I don't think it's a large city at all and very easy to get around. Loads to do & see, free museums with kids, great restaurants & bars.

We are VERY friendly Smile

I very rarely post but had to, Newcastle is amazing, you really should visit! I'm very lucky to live here and the coastline, 20 min on metro, is also beautiful!

And if you make a few days of it, Bamburgh, Crastor, Alnwick and Seahouses are beautiful to the North. And you can take a trip to the Farne Islands. Or Durham is slightly South and is also beautiful although considerable smaller than Newcastle.

Seriously, people make really general sweeping statements about it being grim up north, but I've spent the majority of my adult life here and wouldn't go back south again!

I cannot describe the feeling. Imean, I've visited the UK plenty of times and have seen many documentaries about various British towns, cities etc. but it's the first time I've seen something about Newcastle and it wasn't just the way it was presented, it was rather the city itself and its people shining through.
I could hear them speaking even though it was constantly (over)dubbed in German, and I thought oh they sound very nice and warm.

And it looked beautiful and yet also somewhat rugged and industrial and having this port and the ship industry (or I think they said it used to have it), well made it so pulling somehow.

get can they all be reached easily without a car?

I would either opt for a BritRail ticket OR a NationalExpress Coach ticket.
