Newcastle!!!!

I am here in Germany and am watching this awesome documentary about Newcastle and now I think I need to go and visit!!!!

For some reason it has never been mentioned as a place to visit in the UK and now I feel betrayed Angry

The people were presented as so nice, warm and chatty. The city looks beautiful and there seems to be so much going on and so much to do and see....

Well I'm going Grin

Hmm, not sure about that I must admit. Durham is a simple ten minute train ride from Newcastle. Perhaps others will know about the others.
This thread has inspired me to text me mate asking if she fancies a road trip this weekend!

That's fine. I could see myself staying for 3-5 days and visit and discover Newcastle and Durham.

I do like Newcastle but it feels a bit small when you get there.

From what I have gathered though, the city is united and fundamentalist in its approach to religion.

That religion being football.

Love Newcastle! Its amazing and great things for dcs to do such as seven stories, the sage, Baltic.

Brew dog on dean street for proper beer lovers.

Quay ingredient on the quay side for a croque Madame from heaven.

And the shops oh the shops there are such a variety ooooh lovely shops.

Enjoy your visit.

Alnwick is only 40min for Newcastle and bamburgh and seahouses around 20min from alnwick, def worth a visit and very easy to get to by car.

worldcitizen · 31/07/2013 16:10

Wuldric that's funny. In that film they've mentioned how worth a visit to the stadium would be.
I think, if I remember it right, said that every 2 weeks there is a game there and that the atmosphere is supposed to be amazing and unique.

Thanks for the tips. I won't have a car though. I'll fly to the UK either to Edinburgh, Manchester or London.
I believe there are no direct flights from here to Newcastle.

But I wouldn't mind as I love Edinburgh, so would combine these places.

It's lovely - really diverse. The actual city itself isn't beautiful but galleries, music venues etc are fab. Further afield it's amazing - Durham, whitley bay, Sunderland for the beach, alnwick, northumberland... All nearby and lovely. The nightlife is also fab whether you want Geordie Shore style piss ups, trendy cocktail bars or little real ale pubs. Lots of good restaurants etc too.

Are you watching the documentary that features the guy from Viz magazine and the Flat Caps coffee shop?? Urban somethingorother??

RonBurgundysPanpipe · 31/07/2013 16:16

Another Newcastle fan. Grew up nearby and moved away for uni but came back to get married and have dc. Nothing nicer after being away then the sight of the angel.

worldcitizen · 31/07/2013 16:17

No paper I was watching a German sort of Britain documentary here.

Oh - have a scoot around the net and see if you can find the series. Def called Urban... Possibly cities. There's one in Manchester etc. The Newcastle one is really good :-)

GetStuffezd · 31/07/2013 16:24

Oh and if you catch the metro to Tynemouth (where there is a beautiful beach and wonderful nightlife!) you could go to the flea market!
